Emergency Room Technician provides clinical and administrative support to emergency department staff. Prepares patients for physician examination. Being an Emergency Room Technician measures and records vital signs, performs EKGs, and collects lab samples as needed. Provides wound care and assists with splints, slings, casts, and crutches. Additionally, Emergency Room Technician cleans, inspects, and sets up emergency rooms and equipment. Requires a high school diploma. Requires CPR/BLS Certification. May require EMT or CNA Certification. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Emergency Room Technician's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. The Emergency Room Technician/EMT assists the registered nurse and physician with various duties in the daily operations of the Emergency Room, assists in patient care and the overall efficient operation of the nursing unit. This position is also responsible for reception, transcription, data entry, record retrieval, and other duties assigned by the nursing staff as appropriate to current licensure, certification, or education. Performs various duties related to the Emergency Department in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures.
Must have High School Diploma or equivalent, and currently have or obtain an EMT-B certification or higher at the next available training within one year of hire. Previous experience preferred.
