The Fresno Police Department strives at providing the citizens of Fresno a safe and protected community. Fresno PD is currently seeking experienced dispatchers to provide excellent and prompt customer service. Journey level dispatchers shall answer and evaluate emergency police and emergency medical service calls; operate a multi-channel Computer-Assisted Dispatch (CAD) system console and related equipment to dispatch appropriate public safety units; and prepare police reports. Incumbents are expected to perform emergency dispatch duties using a considerable amount of independent judgment. Must receive certification by the Police Department verifying that the incumbent is capable of performing solo radio duty within 12 months of appointment. Employees will be assigned to work ten-hour shifts and may be required to work weekends and holidays. Shift pay is $1.25 to $1.75 per hour depending upon assigned shift. THE REQUIREMENTSApplicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify for the examination. Possession of a HS Diploma or equivalent GED completion -AND- Two-years of experience equivalent to that gained as an Emergency Services Dispatcher II with the City of Fresno, which included operation of a multi-channel Computer-Assisted Dispatch (CAD) system console and related equipment to dispatch public safety units; must type a net rate of 40 words per minute on a computer keyboard. Applicants that meet the minimum qualifications must read and sign an Applicant Statement. This statement indicates your understanding that as part of the qualifying process for Emergency Services Dispatcher with the City of Fresno, you will be required to complete a detailed pre-employment personal history form, followed by a thorough background investigation which will include a computer voice stress analyzer and/or polygraph examination. If your application is deemed qualifying, the Personnel Services Department will send via electronic mail. Applicants will not be invited/admitted to the examination without the above documentation. SELECTION PROCESSThe examination process may consist of the following: ORAL EXAMINATION - 100%: A panel of subject matter experts may conduct a job-related oral exam to evaluate a candidate's abilities to speak clearly and concisely, deal tactfully with citizens, maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees, handle emergency calls while maintaining composure and perform efficiently and calmly in a demanding work environment or other topics related to a candidate's training, experience, and personal traits for the position of Emergency Services Dispatcher II. Candidates must achieve a passing score to qualify for the eligible list. Since this recruitment is open on a continuous basis, the examination process may be repeated periodically, depending on the number of applicants. As these processes are completed, new candidates will be merged with the current eligible list. Although your score will remain the same through this process, your placement on the eligible list may change. Eligibles certified to the Police Department for consideration must successfully complete a polygraph test, an extensive background investigation, and a department interview before receiving conditional offers of employment. Individuals receiving a conditional offer of employment must successfully complete a medical examination before receiving a final offer of employment. DROP (Deferred Retirement Option Program): an optional, voluntary program that allows an employee to deposit retirement benefits in a special savings account within the Retirement System while continuing to work for the City of Fresno for up to 10 years. Participation minimum is age 50 and vested. Additional information regarding the City of Fresno benefits is available at https://www.fresno.gov/personnel/human-resources-support/#tab-1 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Lateral Emergency Services Dispatcher II Hire Incentives To be eligible for the hiring incentives, you must meet the following criteria: -To be eligible for the below hiring incentives, a qualified lateral Emergency Services Dispatcher (ESD) II/III candidate (Eligible Lateral Hire) must, at the time of filing the employment application, have been employed for at least two consecutive (2) years during the past three (3) years with a law enforcement agency in a classification equivalent to an Emergency Dispatcher II with the City of Fresno Police Department. -Upon hire, an Eligible Lateral Hire will be provided with forty (40) hours of vacation time into their vacation leave bank and forty (40) hours of sick leave time into their sick leave bank, to be used as outlined in the FCEA MOU and City policy. The 40 hours of vacation and sick leave provided at the time of hire are immediately available for use. -Upon hire and commencement of work as an ESD II with the Fresno Police Department, an Eligible Lateral Hire from another law enforcement agency will receive a $1,000 hiring incentive payment. -Upon successful completion of the ESD training program, as determined by Police Administration, the Eligible Lateral Hire will receive a $1,000 hiring incentive payment. -Upon successful completion of the probationary period as an ESD II, the Eligible Lateral Hire will receive a $1,000 hiring incentive payment. -Upon successful completion of an additional twelve months of City service following the successful completion of the probation period, the Eligible Lateral Hire will receive a $1,000 hiring incentive payment. -This incentive is not compensable for retirement purposes. -Payments are subject to the terms outlined in FCEA's MOU. This Agreement will be effective July 1, 2023 and will expire June 30, 2024, unless the City and FCEA mutually agree to extend this Agreement in writing and upon Council approval.
