    Job Summary and Qualifications

    Position Objective


    The dispatcher/operator is to coordinate and manage emergent and non-emergent medical transports for our healthcare transportation company. The Dispatcher will possess excellent communication and organizational skills and be able to efficiently dispatch and manage transportation requests while ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety. The dispatcher during downtime will assist switchboard operations, to ensure an efficient workstation.

    This employee is expected to deliver dispatching for the ambulance department. The population served will be Intra/Inter-Facility transportation for patients in need of BLS, ALS, and Specialty Care transportation.

    Essential Position Functions

    The Dispatcher must be able to be carry out the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation:

    • Receive and process requests for emergent and non-emergent medical transports via phone, email, and computer systems.
    • Schedule and dispatch medical transport vehicles and personnel based on patient needs, transportation requirements, and available resources.
    • Maintain communication with drivers, medical staff, and patients to ensure timely arrivals and departures. Monitor transportation activities and adjust schedules as necessary to ensure efficient use of resources and on-time performance.
    • Document and maintain accurate records of all transportation activities, including patient information, transport times, and vehicle usage.
    • Coordinate with other healthcare providers, including hospitals and nursing homes, to arrange patient transfers and transportation services.
    • Provide excellent customer service to patients, families, and healthcare professionals, answering questions and resolving issues as they arise.
    • Adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies related to medical transportation services.
    • Participates in hospital/unit committees.
    • Performs other duties as needed or as judgment dictates.

    Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or equivalent, with additional education or training in healthcare or transportation preferred.
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in dispatching or coordinating transportation services, preferably in a medical or healthcare setting.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, medical staff, and transportation personnel.
    • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple requests simultaneously.
    • Proficient in the use of computer systems and software, including transportation dispatch and scheduling applications.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols preferred.
    • Ability to work independently, make decisions quickly and effectively, and adapt to changing circumstances.
