Communicates details of situation and location. Additionally, Emergency Dispatcher enters unit response details into a database. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Emergency Dispatcher works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. Overview:
Under general supervision will perform tasks related to the operation of communication equipment used in receiving, sending, and relaying information in response to Emergency/Non-emergency calls according to the goals of Mercy, the philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy Standard of Care and Employee Code of Conduct. Determine exact location of each incident or request. Provide Dispatch Life Support (DLS) and post-dispatch instructions when applicable. Maintain necessary documentation and records. Dispatch and track location of EMS units, relay operational information to field staff and managers/supervisors. Dispatch and coordinate flight of Life Line helicopters. Coordinate in-bound and outbound air craft arriving or originating from Mercy Hospital - Springfield. Performs related duties as assigned. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
Qualifications:
Specific knowledge of mutual aid and other assisting agencies and resources. Proficiency with maintaining crew rosters, lineups, and rotations. Specific knowledge of flight areas and aircraft services available in the region. Familiar with weather anomalies that impact aviation and proficient in using HEMS. Competent in flight activation and flight following. Proficiency with initialing and managing the PAIP process Working conditions, mental and physical requirements: Patience, emotional stability, and the ability to work in high stress situations are required. Works indoors with adequate temperatures, ventilation, and lighting. Average indoor exposure to noise and disruptions, normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt, and above average stress. Periodically works beyond normal hours and works on an as needed basis. Must be able to sit or stand for long periods throughout the workday, with intermittent period of walking, bending, twisting, and reaching. Dexterity ranges from simple coordinated movements of fingers/hand, feet/legs, and torso. Sedentary work, with occasional lifting/carrying objects of 25 pounds. Must be able to mentally and physically react quickly to emergency situations. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, normal color, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
