Under immediate supervision, learns to dispatch Police, Fire and emergency medical personnel and equipment; actively participates in dispatch training courses; performs related learning and testing activities, and participates in field training exercises to fully develop dispatching skills with the assistance of higher-level dispatchers to perform a variety of emergency communication duties; and performs other related duties as required.

If a degree is used to substitute for the education requirement, it may not be used again towards the experience requirement. License Requirement: At the time of appointment, the candidate selected may need to possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license if the position requires it.
Knowledge of: Office practices and procedures; filing methods and systems; the purposes and uses of standard office equipment; geography of the island of Kaua'i; principles and techniques in dealing with people; computer keyboarding and operation of a computer.
Ability to: Learn departmental rules and regulations, and policies and procedures of the communications center; learn pertinent laws and ordinances of the State and County of Kaua'i; learn to operate communications systems equipment; communicate clearly and calmly with personnel and the general public; make sound decisions under stressful conditions; operate standard office equipment, including a computer; type, follow oral and written instructions.
