As a member of the interdisciplinary team, contributes professional emergency/non-emergency medical technician knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients and their families in the pre-hospital and emergency room settings. Maintains proficiency in knowledge and skills as described by the Iowa Department of Public Health Bureau of Emergency and Trauma Services Scope of Practice including advanced invasive and pharmacological interventions to reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with acute medical and traumatic emergencies.
Clinical Excellence |
Provide advanced care to emergency room patient(s) |
Assist in all aspects of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) care for the patients. |
Utilizes physical assessment data, diagnostic data (lab, radiology, diagnostic testing), pharmacological information and patient/family perceptions related to focus problem areas and identifying goals of care. |
Performs advanced care of patients to include IV therapy, administration of medications appropriate for individual’s level of certification, advanced pharmacological interventions (i.e. IV drip management), endotracheal intubations, ventilator management and assists registered nurses in Emergency Room and other patient care areas. |

Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient’s care. |

Performs Triage assessment process per specific department standards to include patient history, physical, and psycho-social assessment. |

Administers medications and treatments within scope of practice. Assists with critical patient care, CPR, Trauma patient care when needed |

Consults appropriate resources within the hospital to provide specialized education. |
Integrates patient/family teaching throughout the hospitalization, including the plan and goals of care, pre- and post-operative procedures, diagnostic procedures, and discharge teaching. |
