The Town of Scarborough is seeking highly motivated applicants for a full-time Dispatcher to join our Public Safety team. The Town of Scarborough, Maine Emergency Communications Center is one of the premier Emergency Communications Centers in the State of Maine. The newly built state of the art Emergency Communications Center provides full service emergency communications, emergency call processing, and 9-1-1 answering services for the Town of Scarborough, Town of Old Orchard Beach, and Town of Buxton, Maine.
Duties include: Receiving requests from the public for police, fire, emergency medical or other public safety services in emergency and non-emergency situations. Assigns and dispatches appropriate units and resources to police, fire, emergency medical, and other public safety incidents. Provides communications coordination of public safety agencies and resources. Uses computer-aided dispatch system and evolving start of the art technology for complaint-taking, unit dispatching, coordination of incidents. Transmission and retrieval of information through local, county, state, and federal law enforcement data networks such as stolen property, vehicles, weapons; and entering missing and wanted persons.
Position requirements: Demonstrates initiative, good judgment, the ability to work well under pressure, and the ability to work successfully with a team in a high paced, high stakes environment. High School diploma or GED equivalent. Willingness and/or ability to work rotating shifts. Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at the Town’s discretion. Experience in public safety dispatching and related supplemental training or certifications are desirable, but not required. Successful candidates must pass written exam, complete oral board interview, physical exam, background, polygraph, & drug testing. Must complete and pass CTO training, 9-1-1 certification class, and EMD and EFD course after hire if designation not already held.
Compensation and Benefits (SPECIAL ATTENTION LATERAL APPLICANTS):The Town of Scarborough offers an extremely competitive and comprehensive benefits package to include a starting wage between $25.02 and $37.02 per hour based on experience and available stipends such as education and certifications. Dental, vision, and medical insurances are offered with medical as low as $13 per week for single, $36 for child and $68 for family. Vacation and holiday time off front load on the first day of employment. Employees earn 13 paid holidays, 12 paid vacation days, 12 sick days, 4 personal days and the ability to earn additional compensation time off each year, with premium double pay offered for select holidays. The Town offers two retirement plan offers including a 6% contribution match for 401k, or State Pension System with retirement eligibility after 25 years of service regardless of age. The Town offers an additional 4% match for 457 retirement contributions, and all employees receive a Retirement Health Savings Account. Dispatchers work a four day on three day off 10-hour shift schedule.
