Emergency Dispatcher is responsible for responding to calls for emergency and non-emergency assistance and dispatching law enforcement, fire fighting, or rescue units. Transmits and receives coded and conventional messages. Being an Emergency Dispatcher differentiates between routine, priority, and emergency messages, and initiates or follows through on responses as required. Communicates details of situation and location. Additionally, Emergency Dispatcher enters unit response details into a database. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Emergency Dispatcher works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. This is full-performance technician work responsible for public safety communications in an emergency communications center. Incumbents are required to use radio, call taking, and Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems along with other computer equipment to evaluate citizen requests for public safety service, dispatch appropriate emergency resources within assigned area and class capabilities, and track events to identified conclusion.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or GED;
• Two (2) years of responsible work experience as a Public Safety Emergency Dispatcher.
OR
• One (1) year experience as a Public Safety Emergency Dispatcher I plus one (1) year experience in an emergency medical services environment responding to highly stressed callers in need of public safety services and have attained and maintained all related certifications, training, and program experience stipulated by agency
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Certified Maryland State National Crime Information Center (NCIC) CN2 training course;
• Certified American Heart Association (AHA) Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/Basic Life Support (CPR/BLS) course for Health Care Providers;
• Completed the Practical and Academic Public Safety Dispatcher I/II training program.

RATE: $25.07 per hour ($52,154 annually)
