Position: Electrical Engineer - Power Engineering
Minimum Educational Requirements: BS Electrical Engineering
Experience: Minimum five years’ work in power engineering environment
Required Registrations: Registered Professional Engineer, preferred; or must be willing to become a Registered Professional Engineer, when qualified.
Company Description: Established Design Engineering and Consulting firm located in southeast U.S., headquartered in Asheboro, NC, and with a branch office in Spartanburg, SC. Clients include electric utility companies (Investor-Owned, Municipals, Cooperatives, and State-Owned), Power Agencies, Military Bases, and Industries.
Responsibilities:
- Lead team member working on electrical design projects from the conceptual and study stage through completion of construction
- Projects typically include electric power substations, transmission lines, distribution lines, load-side generation facilities, SCADA systems, fiber optic communication systems, and industrial distribution systems. System studies typically include short circuit, arc flash, protective coordination, load flow, cost of service, rate, and economic feasibility. Communicate effectively with management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
- Prepare electrical packaged equipment specifications and data sheets, Request for Qualifications (RFQ's), technical bid evaluations, and purchase recommendations
- Review electrical equipment, vendor drawings, and data
- Interface with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, detailers, and designers
- Participate in project schedule development, scope, budget staffing, and construction planning
- Responsible for management of change orders
- Apply expert knowledge of commonly used electrical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the electrical engineering services industry
- Apply knowledge and experience in complex projects and finding non-standard design solutions
- Quality review of production drawings, calculations, and specifications
- Oversee construction administration, including coordination with field personnel to resolve design-related installation issues, calculations, field inspections, and testing of electrical systems
- Leads field inspections, installation, measurements, or calculations
- Prepare and present technical reports for clients
- Build effective relationships with existing clients and contractors and develop new business opportunities. Responsible for ensuring client satisfaction goals and expectations are met
- Participate in sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits
- Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance
- Prepare and present project budgets, cost estimates, and report project performance
- Provide leadership, guidance, instruction, and mentor and guide less experienced engineers
- Responsible for QA/QC process adherence
- Responsible for effective communication with other engineering disciplines
- Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies
- All other duties as assigned
Additional Requirements:
- Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Critical thinking skills and ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills
- Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications
- Ability to travel 15%
- Experience performing power quality measurements, troubleshooting, and analysis are highly desirable. Working knowledge with power systems analysis to conduct short circuit/Arc Flash/Breaker coordination studies (including software applications of SKM) is highly desirable
- Experience with NFPA, IEEE, and NETA testing standards and practices
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year, Based on education and experience
