    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    ASSISTANT MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR (Electrical Trade); this is a full-time, 1st shift, 260 days, grade M-11 position at the Trades Center with the Maintenance Office. NOTE regarding work schedule/shift assignment: This 1st shift schedule is subject to change, depending upon the needs of APS. Applicant hired for a position in this class is hired for the position, not the work schedule or shift assignment. Once hired, an employee may be reassigned to another schedule or shift at the discretion of APS.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    (May not include all duties performed; not all incumbents perform all essential functions delineated.) Plans, manages, supervises and participates in construction, preventative maintenance and repair tasks of assigned skilled trade (ELECTRICAL). Participates/assists or, as needed, develops the specific shop's annual budget, financial projections, annual and long-range plans; manages section's financial and operational activities. Receives work requests and coordinates with school principals and building administrators, and other trades supervisors to schedule and prioritize projects on a regular and emergency basis. Estimates amount, types, and costs of materials and equipment, crew size and individual staff skills necessary to complete job in timely, safe, competent manner, taking into consideration budgetary and work schedule issues; confers with crew leaders for input. Participates, assists or as assigned, orders materials, tools, and equipment. Prepares work orders, work instructions, plans and diagrams for subordinates, or delegates preparation to project crew leader. Participates in the determination of whether work should be performed by contractors; as assigned, issues work instructions to contractors; coordinates between contractors and principals or building administrators; inspects and approves work of contractors.

    Coordinates as needed with police, fire department, county inspectors and other officials with an interest in work of assigned trade (ELECTRICAL). Obtains building permits. Coordinates with school and county staff regarding emergency planning. Organizes and directs emergency activities of section. Inspects on-going and completed work to ensure all safety precautions, regulations and equipment are utilized appropriately, and that work complies with county building codes. Resolves problems regarding project that are beyond the scope of the project leader. Develops punch list prior to approving completion and/or provides additional instruction, training and guidance to work crew as necessary. May work in centralized shop area to perform tasks, use equipment, supplies, and tools depending on trade. Participates in handling human resources management activities for assigned staff, including conducting or approving training, holding safety and staff meetings. Participates in project set up, work, and clean up as necessary. Develops and/or participates in preparation of materials and contractor bids. May assist with maintaining section time, attendance records, and leave approval. May prepare, record, and maintain section reference data, using computer applications and spreadsheets. May assist in developing system-wide preventative maintenance schedule to ensure trade-relevant systems and equipment remain operational or are scheduled for repair or replacement. Performs related work as required, or assigned.

    EXPERIENCE:

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    Possession of journey level knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with the trade to which assigned (ELECTRICAL). Thorough knowledge of the procedures, materials, hazards and safety precautions associated with assigned trade. Familiarity of national, state and local codes and regulations relevant to electrical trade. Knowledge of electrical trade training, supervision, and evaluation methods. Ability to plan, supervise and perform journey level tasks in the electrical trade. Ability to develop and maintain good leadership and interpersonal relationships, to resolve personnel and technical problems, and to respond appropriately in hazardous situations. Ability to follow and give oral and written instructions, and to read and interpret plans, diagrams, drawings, prints, schematics, etc. Ability to use arithmetic computations to measure, calculate quantities and costs, etc, and ability to maintain records. Ability to use computer technology applications required to perform assigned essential functions. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Some trades require trade or equipment specific licenses and manufacturers certifications. NOTE: All APS employees authorized to drive APS vehicles are subject to either the Omnibus Transpiration Act drug or alcohol testing procedures (if required to possess CDL) OR the APS Alcohol and Drug testing procedures (if CDL is not required).

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    Completion of high school, including courses in industrial arts and/or shop mechanics, and completion of
    formal or informal training equivalent to an apprenticeship in the trade to which assigned, and
    considerable progressively more responsible experience in assigned trade(s), some of which shall have
    been in a lead capacity at the level of a mechanic II; or any equivalent combination of education and
    experience that would provide the above noted knowledge, skill, and ability.

    LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
    Possession of CDL vehicle operator's license. Some trades require trade or equipment specific licenses
    and manufacturers certifications.

    PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES
    Work requires physical strength, agility, dexterity, hand-eye-foot coordination, and motor skills to
    perform all necessary essential functions including the operation of motorized equipment with
    attachments, the operation of power and hand tools, and the lifting of heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
    Work requires sufficient physical strength, agility, dexterity to perform all essential functions including
    operating power mowers and tools, lifting and carrying objects. Duties also require frequent sitting,
    walking, kneeling, squatting, pushing, pulling, twisting, and bending. Work also requires employee to
    climb and work from ladders, catwalks and supports up to heights of 45 feet.

    HAZARDS/ UNUSUAL DEMANDS
    Work is performed primarily outdoors in the operation of mowers and other power tools, and exposes
    employee to potential hazards such as dust, exhaust fumes, sharp cutting blades, and flying rocks and
    debris. Employee is also exposed to potential physical hazards when working off ladders, catwalks and
    supports, and to potential chemical hazards when handling and applying chemicals. Work requires the
    frequent use of safety clothing and equipment and compliance with safety rules and procedures.
    The work schedule is subject to change, depending upon the needs of APS. Incumbents in this class are
    hired for the position, not the work schedule or shift assignment. Once hired, an employee may be
    reassigned to another schedule or shift at the discretion of APS.
