Electrical Design Engineer

  • Summary

    The Electrical Design Engineer performs technical design and analysis on projects of moderate level of complexity. This person is expected to exercise a strong work ethic and organizational skills. Work performed by this person is supervised and supported by more experienced engineers on the team. The Electrical Design Engineer 3 operates with moderate levels of autonomy and demonstrates full proficiency with at least one CAD platform, full proficiency with electrical design fundamentals, and can quickly learn, adapt, and apply new skills from those with more experience. This person is expected to work well with others, both internal and external, absorb and apply constructive criticism, and seek guidance from more experienced members of the team as necessary.

    • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) - Proficient
    • Market Sector Software (Electrical Power Systems Analysis [EasyPower or SKM], Lighting Calcs [Dialux or equivalent], Energy Compliance [ComCheck], CAD [AutoCAD, Revit], Generator Sizing [PSSPEC or equivalent]) - Developing
    Technical Expertise
    • Intermediate understanding of technical fundamentals
    • Performs moderately complex design tasks independently
    • Effectively divides projects into individual tasks
    • Leads technical effort on small projects
    • Performs quality control on basic deliverables
    Teamwork

    Team player who is able to follow on large, complex projects and lead a small team on simple tasks. Anticipates the needs of other technical disciplines and takes responsibility for results.

    Project Delivery

    Produces the following independently:

    • Technical reports and memos
    • Construction quantity takeoffs, calculations, and cost estimates
    • Design documents (specifications) and construction plans
    • Value engineering
    • Bid documents
    • Equipment submittal reviews
    • Construction management
    Understanding Budget and Schedule

    Strong understanding of scopes, schedules, and budgets. Able to predict and deliver individual tasks within a set level of effort. Able to consistently meet budget and schedule expectations on projects.

    • NEMA Standards
    • ANSI Standards
    • IES Lighting Standards
    • State Energy Compliance
    • UL Standards
    • IEEE Standards
    • AHJ (authority having jurisdiction)
    Client Interaction

    Frequent and direct client communications. Resolves issues on small projects. Attends client meetings as needed. Consistently uses situationally appropriate communication tools (e.g., email and Teams versus phone versus in-person).

    Performs moderate to advanced levels of technical work on larger and more complex projects as assigned. Operates with a moderate level of autonomy. Work is reviewed by others. May assist with some project management tasks.

    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering required
    • Years of experience required: 4 years
    • Years of experience required with advanced degree: 3 years
    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
    • PE required, ability to have multiple PE in various states
    • Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
