Motor Vehicle Operator

  • Duties

    • Operates motor vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds up to 26,000 pounds to include passenger shuttle vans (10-20 passenger capacity), cargo vans and 30- to 40- passenger buses.
    • Vehicles are driven for long and short distances to transport and pick up articles, supplies, materials, and passengers.
    • Vehicles are sometimes driven through congested areas where drivers must exercise caution when backing to load or unload at docks, ramps, or similar locations.
    • Assures that cargo is properly located, distributed, and secured, and that vehicle is not loaded beyond capacity.
    • Operates special equipment such as manual winches and tie-downs.
    • Responsible for operator maintenance, inspection, and recordkeeping. Major maintenance problems are brought to the supervisor's attention. Responsible for other transportation and cargo services related duties.
