      POSITION: Special Education Compliance Specialist
      IMMEDIATE
      SUPERVISOR: Director of Special Education

      EMPLOYMENT
      TERM: Minimum 200 days annually, pursuant to WV Code §18-5-45; extended employment days may be established by HCBOE


      SALARY: Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-2, in accordance with Hampshire County Teacher Salary Schedule,
      commensurate with experience and education level


      EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated by the Director of Special Education

      JOB SUMMARY: Oversee special education teachers on IEP compliance by providing training and support on procedures and implementation of Individualized Education Program (IEPs), as outlined in Policy 2419 and IDEA.

      QUALIFICATIONS:

      • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and special education or a related certification required
      • Special education teaching experience preferred
      • Knowledge and experience of Policy 2419 and its implementation
      • Use of the online IEP system

      PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
      To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.       • Provide professional development and support on procedures and implementation of IEP as outline in Policy 2419 and IDEA.
      • Attend eligibility meetings, complete team documents, and facilitate discussion.
      • Provide assistance to case managers in all aspects of cases management: use of computer systems for the special education process, verification of services, eligibility, IEP development and implementation, including transition plans, progress reporting, and parent communication.
      • Coordinate with student’s special education team to ensure all documents are completed in a timely manner (according to federal, state, local, and school policies and procedures).
      • Ensure IEPs are developmentally appropriate, curriculum/standards -based, strength based, and relevant to individual students
      • Maintain a high level of knowledge regarding developing special education issues such as changes in federal and local special education policy

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff members.
      WORK ENVIRONMENT:
      The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Most commonly, the educational setting is indoors with outdoor settings for recess and field trip activities. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate (20-60dB). Exceptions include gymnasiums as well as vocational/technical laboratories where the noise levels may be moderate to loud (60-90 dB).
