  • The Student Pathways Division of the Agency of Education (AOE) is seeking an enthusiastic and mission-driven individual to be the Arts Specialist. This position will provide statewide leadership, oversight, and support to Vermont supervisory unions and districts (SUs/SDs) and their schools to implement comprehensive and equitable arts education in Vermont consistent with the expectations within the Vermont Education Quality Standards. A deep understanding of the National Core Arts Standards is essential. The ideal candidate must be willing to develop the skills necessary for successful project and grant management, have strategies for creating networks of educational stakeholders, exhibit high energy as a collaborative team member, and enjoy engaging directly with the field. Additionally, a passion for learning and a commitment to continuous improvement in service to support and sustain an inclusive public education system is vital. The Arts Specialist position sits on the Proficiency-Based Learning (PBL) Team in the Student Pathways Division. The PBL team works in partnership with other divisional and Agency teams to support the implementation of content standards, proficiency-based education, local comprehensive assessment systems, and other education requirements and regulations to ensure that educational systems are equitable and culturally sustaining. This position will provide administrative and specialized program leadership for comprehensive, statewide arts education. Additionally, the Arts Specialist is responsible for supporting state-level efforts related to student-centered learning, proficiency-based graduation requirements, curriculum, assessment, and policy implementation. The Agency strives to create a working environment that fosters innovation, collaboration, equity, and inclusion where everyone is valued and respected. This position offers a successful candidate the opportunity to collaborate with educators and educational leaders at local, state, and national levels, inform policy and practice, and contribute to educational initiatives to improve the learning experience of every student. Specific job duties for the Arts Specialist include: Contribute content expertise in arts education to the work of the Student Pathways Division as well as other divisions at the Agency; Promote evidence-based instruction aligned to standards; Provide statewide leadership and support to Supervisory Union/Supervisory District leadership and staff for equitable implementation of the Vermont Education Quality Standards; Work with individuals and teams within the Agency of Education, other state agencies, SUs/SDs, and stakeholders (e.g., legislative councils, community arts organizations, etc.) to identify areas where technical assistance and/or professional learning opportunities are needed and provide or arrange for support to meet identified needs; Engage with partner organizations and members in the field to support student-centered arts instruction; Inform or develop data collections and evaluations to determine the effectiveness of professional learning opportunities and technical assistance; Work to support continuous improvement at all levels of education; Review and share research that will assist team members in providing leadership, support, and oversight to the field; and Collaborate with state/national organizations in order to grow professionally and ensure that the most current information and resources are provided to the field. Telework is permitted based upon supervisor approval, however, work within the office at National Life in Montpelier will be required.
