    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Bay Area Discovery Museum seeks a Maintenance Specialist to support our Facilities and Exhibits team. This role is responsible for day-to-day preservation of the cleanliness and welcoming appearance of the museum facilities, as well as meeting and event production (set-up & take down). 


    This position will work onsite on our campus in Sausalito, CA. This is a maintenance role, and at times, custodial-heavy facilities role that will require extended periods of standing, reaching, and lifting (up to 50 pounds). Duties may be spread throughout our 7.5-acre campus, so candidates must be comfortable working indoors and outdoors on different types of terrain. Candidates will be required to abide by and enforce our health and safety measures.  

     

    The pay rate for this non-exempt role is $22.00/hour. This is a progressive role. Upon successful completion of no less than 90 days, this role will be considered for promotion to a Facilities Technician with an incremental pay increase. 


    This position can be either FT or PT, depending on the candidate's availability. The schedule for this role is to be determined but will include one weekend day.

     

     


    KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

    1. Monitors and maintains a high standard of cleanliness throughout the museum campus, including performing custodial duties as necessary.  
    2. Assists with program, event, and festival production, including set-up and teardown. 
    3. Assures a safe site for visitors, staff, and volunteers.   
    4. Carries out basic maintenance/repair of all buildings and grounds.   
    5. Utilizes the Facilities help ticket system for all fabrication, repair, and event requests. Provides immediate response to site issues and requests. 
    6. Helps to ensure general shop safety, serviceability, and proper use of tools and equipment by participating in shop maintenance tasks. 
    7. Ability to maintain flexibility of schedule to provide support for special events as and Facilities staff vacation and sick time coverage.  

    Performs other duties as assigned. 

     

    SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS 

    • Regular and predictable attendance is required. Candidates must have reliable access to transportation to our site.  
    • General repair and mechanical skills are preferred including carpentry, electrical, and plumbing. Ability to use basic hand tools and power tools.  
    • Knowledge of and adherence to tool and shop safety. Knowledge of OSHA regulations.
    • General computer skills, including proficiency with accessing internet, email, and BADM’s service ticketing system.

    • Knowledge of good customer service principles.

    • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.  Mature, friendly, flexible and service-oriented, good-humored, team player.  
    • Abides by and enforces BADM’s health and safety protocols.
