    Northwest AEA provides special education and school improvement services to 34 public school districts and 32 accredited, non-public schools. The agency serves 45,000 students and more than 5000 educators in a 10-county area of Northwest Iowa (Lyon, Osceola, Sioux, O'Brien, Plymouth, Cherokee, Woodbury, Ida, Monona, and Crawford). 

     

    Our headquarters is located at 5800 Discovery Blvd., near the Sioux Gateway Airport in Sioux City, with regional offices in Cherokee, Denison, Le Mars, Onawa, and Sioux Center.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance preferred.
    • Appropriate licensure as a School Business Official from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners or ability to obtain such licensure.


    Job Purpose:  To assist with the daily operations of the Business Office to ensure timely and accurate expenditures, receipts, and deposits, etc.  To provide support with business affairs of the Area Education Agency in such a way as to provide the best possible educational services with the financial resources available.


    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Assist with a budget control system for the agency.
    • Advise the Chief Financial Officer and other administrators on topics related to the business and financial affairs of the agency.
    • Assist in the preparation of financial reports deemed necessary to make board decisions and satisfy state and federal reports.
    • Check reports at the end of each month to make sure receipts, expenditures, and cash are in balance.
    • Provide for internal auditing to examine expenditures of the Agency to ensure compliance with both accepted accounting principles and law.
    • Countersign all warrants and drafts upon the treasury drawn on and signed by the Board President.
    • Review and execute EFT and wire transfers.
    • Maintain reports as required by law, including electronic federal/state tax deposits, Form 941’s, IPERS, workers’ compensation program, Iowa workforce development, etc.
    • Ensure accuracy of payroll, accounts payable, and receiving functions of the Agency.
    • Assist to establish and support an accounting information system to provide accurate financial reports for local, state, and federal requirements.
    • Complete all required state and federal reporting as assigned.
    • Retrieve and compile information and be accountable to the various auditors. (Annual Independent, IPERS Compliance Review, Work Comp., etc.)
    • Other duties as assigned.


    Travel:

    • Limited travel within the AEA is expected. 
    • Occasional travel within the AEA or state for meetings and conferences relevant to the position.
    • Use of a personal vehicle is expected.
