Reporting to the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, this is a new position that will work closely with Academic Affairs and other offices to oversee all aspects of the prison education program. The Director will work to build support for the program among various stakeholders, be responsible for the program’s financial stewardship, work with the Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation to ensure the program’s operation and work with incarcerated students runs smoothly and effectively, with a specific emphasis on understanding and integrating the cultural and societal nuances of Hawaiian and Pacific Island populations and the local correctional system. The Director works with deans and faculty to ensure necessary classes are available and staffed with qualified faculty. The Director will also be involved in partnership cultivation and management, grant writing, and ensuring compliance with the US Department of Education and accreditation standards. This is a grant-funded position. Grant funding is expected to expire on September 30, 2026. Continuation of this position past this date will be contingent upon additional grant funding being secured and the needs of the University.

Minimum:
Master’s degree and minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in developing and managing an academic program.
Preferred:
Terminal Degree with college level teaching experience, in prison experience a plus.
Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.
