BloodHorse LLC, the Thoroughbred industry’s leading publication, is hiring an editor to manage our coverage of the sales beat while also contributing to racing coverage and to the production of our BloodHorse Daily product. This position is an exciting opportunity for an individual with knowledge of the Thoroughbred industry to become a part of our editorial team.
BloodHorse LLC is a dynamic multimedia company that produces the BloodHorse monthly magazine, an industry-leading website at Bloodhorse.com, the newly launched BH , a web-based subscription section featuring premium contect, and BloodHorse Daily, a PDF and mobile news service providing analysis and updates for racing and breeding professionals. BloodHorse also manages a broad range of social media platforms. It publishes a range of other respected Thoroughbred industry-focused publications as well.
Summary:
The sales editor organizes and drives the sales coverage, which is a key component of both BloodHorse Daily and BloodHorse.com. The ability to innovate, strategize, and multitask is a must.
Responsibilities:
· Maintains the sales planner, continuously updating the calendar with potential features relating to upcoming sales as well as keeping abreast of changes made to both domestic and foreign sales.
· Conducts planning meetings with key team members in advance of major sales.
· Develops and maintains working relationships with contacts in the racing, sales, and breeding arenas.
· Conducts interviews as needed ahead of sales and racing events.
· Directs the on-site sales team.
· Acts as the working liaison at each sale between the photographer and the editorial department
· Remains abreast of incoming or breaking news, writes original news stories, and inputs prescient press releases when necessary.
· Writes original features for BloodHorse Daily, BloodHorse.com, and BloodHorse Magazine.
· Creates and assigns feature ideas for each domestic sale to additional support staff.
· Creates unique video content as part of BH
· Helps update BloodHorse Instagram/Twitter and other social media accounts as needed.
Requirements:
· BA/BS or equivalent experience
· Experience in the Thoroughbred industry preferred
· Experience in writing/journalism preferred
· Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
· Good time-management skills
· Great interpersonal and communication skills
· Excellent project management skills and ability to communicate effectively with team
· Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to details
· Great multi-taking skills and ability to work under pressure
Because of the timing of sales events, weekend and evening work will be necessary in this position. Flexibility is required according to major sales and race schedules.
Knowledge of the Thoroughbred breeding, sales, and racing industries is required.
