Echocardiograph Technician performs echocardiograms in accordance with established practices and procedures. Provides preliminary diagnostic evaluation and notifies cardiologists of results of examinations. Being an Echocardiograph Technician consults with cardiologist to establish requirements for non-standard examinations and determines technical factors to satisfy requirements. Requires an associate degree, and passing the Echocardiography Registry Exam. Additionally, Echocardiograph Technician typically reports to a manager. Responsibilities and duties of a cardiac sonographer include:
Performs echocardiogram tests according to protocol to obtain important data about patients
Administers two-dimensional, m-mode and Doppler pulse wave, imaging and non-imaging continuous wave, and color flow mapping echocardiograms to patients while recording digital clips
Properly positions patient, attaches equipment and adjusts control settings to obtain optimal display
Assists physicians in the diagnosis of patients with heart conditions
Accurately records patient data and test results
Helps with administrative duties such as scheduling appointments or cleaning equipment
Assists with other patient related activities daily
Able to explain all aspects of multiple test procedures
Insures proper equipment disinfection in accordance with established protocol
Education:
Completion of formal cardiac ultrasound training program,
Registered cardiac sonographer, RCS or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer, RDCS,
A technologist may be hired as registry eligible,
In such cases the incumbent must sit for the registry exam within 6 months of hire and pass the exam within the first year of hire or be terminated,
Successful completion of all orientation programs; completion of all mandatory compliance training,
Experience: Work experience in a cardiac ultrasound laboratory
