EEG Technician performs electroencephalograms in accordance with established practices and procedures. Attaches electrodes to the patient. Being an EEG Technician records impulse frequencies and differences in electrical potential between various areas of the brain to obtain data for use in the diagnosis of brain disorders. Provides preliminary diagnostic evaluation and notifies neurologist of results of examinations. Additionally, EEG Technician consults with neurologist to establish requirements for non-standard examinations and determines technical factors to satisfy requirements. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The EEG Technician works under moderate supervision. As an EEG Technician, you will be responsible for performing diagnostic evaluations and monitoring patients' brain activity using specialized equipment. Duties:
- Perform EEG tests on patients, including attaching electrodes to the scalp and monitoring brain activity
- Operate and maintain EEG equipment, ensuring accuracy and reliability of test results
- Monitor patients during EEG tests, noting any abnormalities or changes in brain activity
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to interpret test results and provide accurate reports
- Maintain patient records and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information
- Assist with patient preparation and positioning for EEG tests
- Provide patient education regarding the EEG procedure and answer any questions or concerns
Experience:
- Previous experience as an EEG Technician or similar role preferred
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology
- Familiarity with diagnostic evaluation techniques and equipment
- Proficient in interpreting EEG test results and identifying abnormalities
- Ability to accurately document patient information and maintain records
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients and healthcare professionals
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology
- Proficiency in performing diagnostic evaluations using EEG equipment
- Ability to interpret EEG test results accurately and identify abnormalities
- Strong understanding of vital signs monitoring during EEG tests
- Familiarity with CT scans and their relevance to neurological disorders
