    Description

    In a fast-paced factory environment, the IT System Administrator plays a vital role in maintaining, optimizing, and securing our information technology infrastructure.  This multifaceted role requires expertise in Microsoft environments, IBM iSeries, VMware, network management with HP switches and Cisco Firewall, and responsive desktop support.  Additionally, you will work collaboratively with developers to ensure the seamless operation of IT systems supporting factory operations. 

    Qualifications


    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - include the following.

    1. IT System Administration:
      1. Administer and maintain servers in Microsoft (Windows Server) and Linux environments.
      2. Manage and maintain IBM iSeries servers, including system upgrades and performance optimization.
      3. Configure and manage VMware virtualization infrastructure, ensuring efficient VM provisioning and resource allocation.
      4. Implement and maintain Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and other core services.
      5. Perform regular system backups, data integrity checks, and disaster recovery planning.
      6. Monitor system performance, respond to alerts, and troubleshoot server-related issues.
    2. Network Management:
      1. Administer and maintain network infrastructure, including HP switches and Cisco Firewall.
      2. Configure, optimize, and secure network devices to support factory operations.
      3. Monitor network traffic, identify and resolve network-related issues proactively.
      4. Implement robust network security measures to protect against unauthorized access and threats.
      5. Collaborate with third-party vendors for network-related services and solutions.
    3. Desktop Support:
      1. Provide rapid-response desktop support for hardware and software issues in a factory setting.
      2. Install, configure, and maintain desktop computers, laptops, ruggedized devices, and peripherals.
      3. Troubleshoot and resolve desktop-related problems, including operating system and application issues.
      4. Collaborate with developers to ensure compatibility and support for specialized development environments.
      5. Ensure continuous availability of critical factory systems and minimize downtime.
    4. Collaboration with Developers:
      1. Work closely with software developers to ensure seamless integration of factory systems and development projects.
      2. Provide support for development environments, including version control systems, build tools, and testing environments.
      3. Collaborate on infrastructure requirements for new software applications and projects.
      4. Ensure the availability and performance of development and testing systems.
      5. Troubleshoot issues related to software development and deployment.
    5. Documentation and Training:
      1. Maintain comprehensive documentation of IT systems, configuration, and troubleshooting procedure.
      2. Conduct training sessions for factory personnel and developers to enhance IT awareness and adherence to best practices.
      3. Collaborate with the IT team and developer to develop and update IT-related documentation and policies.
    6. Other duties may be assigned. 

     

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor degree (BS) in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field required. 5-7 years of proven experience in IT system administration, desktop support, and network management required.   Related IT certifications preferred.

     

    Proficiency in Microsoft Windows Server, IBM iSeries, Linux, VMware, MS Office Management, MS Exchange.

    Strong knowledge of VLANS and Routing.

     

    Knowledge of Kanban production floor systems preferred.

    Knowledge or experience with Microsoft Great Plains preferred.

     

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially in a factory environment with diverse stakeholder required. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and contractors.  Fluent in English. 

     

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to apply advanced mathematical and statistical concepts and formulas in all units of measure is required. 

     

    REASONING ABILITY

    Excellent problem-solving skills, adaptability and ability to work effectively under pressure.  Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited information exists. Ability to interpret a technical specification furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
