Drafting Supervisor supervises a team within an organization's computer-aided design (CAD) department. Plans, assigns, and reviews the work of drafters and other employees working on design projects. Being a Drafting Supervisor ensures deadlines, goals, and production standards for the department are met. Analyzes data and reviews drawings/plans to ensure quality of work and project feasibility. Additionally, Drafting Supervisor reviews project results and makes recommendations for improvement. Provides CAD technical support and develops solutions. Uses knowledge of the field to keep the department's software, techniques, and tools up to date. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Drafting Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. DRAFTING ENGINEER INTERNSHIP
Learn and gain valuable experience in a key role in the design of the exterior façade on large, commercial buildings, including the application of basic building science principles. The engineering department works with the sales and design teams to review projects for appropriate product application, structural capacity and façade integration. This requires a wide variety of knowledge and key understanding to the fundamentals of exterior wall design and how all components of the assembly must work in concert. This includes general code requirements, air and moisture control layers, thermal control layers and the structural support of the façade. In addition to design assist, the engineering department will coordinate with outside vendors to provide project specific design calculations, draft drawings and work with production to generate fabrication drawings of components for manufacture.
