Donor Research Coordinator identifies potential donors and evaluates their interests and capacity to give to the organization. Conducts research and prospecting to locate individuals aligning with the organization's values and mission. Being a Donor Research Coordinator analyzes data for trends and creates donor profiles to assist with donor development, stewardship, and direct communications and fundraising strategy. Uses a database or Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to maintain research data and donor records, execute mailing or e-mail campaigns, and create reports. Additionally, Donor Research Coordinator maintains confidentiality and complies with data privacy regulations and policies. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Donor Research Coordinator occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) is a national nonprofit organization with a mission to end school shootings,
    and create a culture change that prevents violence and other harmful acts that hurt children. Through its life-saving evidence-informed Know the Signs prevention programs, SHP educates and empowers youth and adults to recognize, intervene, and get help for individuals who may be socially isolated and/or at risk of hurting themselves or others. SHP is a moderate, bipartisan organization that supports sensible policy solutions that address the human side of gun violence and make schools safer.

    SHP is led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.

    Position Summary 
    The Director of Donor Research provides strategic philanthropic insight and data analysis for the development team. By using research tools and insight, the Director guides fundraisers in determining the manner in which a prospect or donor is approached and the key factors – relationships and resources – that determine the scope and scale of the prospect/donor philanthropic intent. The Director is an experienced researcher who provides information to the corporate, foundation, major gifts, and mid-level gift team members. The position reports to the Senior Vice President, Development.

    Job Responsibilities 
     
    • Use advanced research tools and skills to collect, analyze, organize, and distribute prospect and donor information to enable accurate and well-informed decision-making in the development and implementation of resource development priorities and strategy
    • Develop and maintain a process to identify, qualify, and track high-net-worth individuals and prospects, interpreting relevant biographical/financial/professional information, interests, personal connections, and other key relationships to determine potential for support
    • Create research profiles on individual prospects and current donors to support Resource Development’s efforts in acquisition, cultivation, and stewardship strategies to increase philanthropic support
    • Collaborate with major gifts, foundation and corporate team members to provide additional research and data analysis to facilitate the achievement of fundraising goals
    • Create and maintain Resource Development dashboard to track goals and objectives of the department
    • Protect the confidentiality of donor information at all times
    • Work and collaborate with teammates from across the organization as necessary.
    • Have a basic understanding of data literacy and willingness to use and refer to data.
    • Other duties as identified given organizational needs.


    Qualification 
    • College degree and/or equivalent experience
    • Proven ability to build and cultivate collaborative relationships
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Proven aptitude for donor research and applicable analytical skills
    • Commitment to professional development in ways that align with the position description
    • Efficient organizational abilities and insights
    • Track record of carrying projects from inception through to completion
    • Self-starter and excellent manager of time and work priorities
    • Proficiency in iWave, WealthEngine, LexisNexis for Development Professionals, FoundationDirectory (Candid), MS Office suite, and familiarity with CRM utilization to track and analyze donor trends
    • Ability to assess the quality, reliability, and accuracy of current and emerging research tools and resources, integrating industry trends, tools, and resources to maximize the discovery, analysis, and tracking of prospects

    Benefits and Salary Range 
    • The salary range for this position is $93,000-$103,000 (SHP follows a strict internal rubric to help guide salary placement and ensure equitable pay amongst new hires and current staff. New hires should expect to be brought on at the start of the range, except in extenuating circumstances.)
