Distribution Center Manager manages the overall planning, organizing, and operations of a distribution center. Oversees all distribution functions, including order processing, picking, packaging, shipping, and receiving. Being a Distribution Center Manager monitors inventory levels to ensure sufficient levels to fulfill all orders. Balances workloads as needed to achieve production and delivery goals for each shift. Additionally, Distribution Center Manager utilizes software, data, and analytics to optimize operations, track production metrics, and anticipate and resolve problems. Provides the necessary equipment, tools, and training to staff to ensure safe, secure, and efficient operations. Complies with all OSHA and other regulations, policies, safety procedures, and documentation requirements. May evaluate and select transportation or freight services, negotiate contracts, and manage vendor relations. May require a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Distribution Center Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Distribution Center Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     The Material Handler may fulfill multiple roles in the Distribution Center environment to help fulfill overall mission to process Inbound and/or Outbound freight accurately, timely, and safely.

    Major Activities

    • Performs one or more of a variety of functions in a Distribution Center environment associated with fulfilling orders for retail stores and/or other Distribution Centers. Potential work assignments include Receiving, Labeling, Putaway, Order Picking, Slotting, Replenishment, eComm order fulfillment, Hybrid throwing, Loading, and other “speciality” roles that require additional training/experience (e.g., Inventory Control). May utilize manual and/or powered industrial equipment and/or RF guns to perform work tasks as well.
    • Documents production log appropriately to include changes in assignments, downtime, meetings, etc. to ensure productivity records are accurate.
    • Completes other assigned duties per business needs.

    Preferred Type of Experience the Job Requires

    Physical Requirements

    • Frequent lifting and carrying of product weighing 5 to 60 pounds
    • Frequent pushing or pulling of material and/or equipment
    • Frequent standing when working and when driving powered industrial equipment
    • Frequent walking, primarily in the warehouse
    • Regular reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling and twisting
    • Repetitive motion and substantial movement of the wrists, hands and/or fingers

    Work Environment

    • Exposure to extreme temperatures dependent on external climate and proximity to dock doors/exits
    • Moderate noise level from DC conveyor/sortation system and powered industrial equipment
    • Occasional vibration if/when operating powered industrial equipment
    • Potential exposure to fumes and airborne particles

    Essential Duties:

    • Load and unload trucks from the dock as needed
    • Load orders and unload materials.
    • Assist in warehouse operations as needed.
    • Pull material from inventory to load orders.
    • Load and unload trucks from the dock as needed.
    • Ensure that all incoming materials are properly received and loaded.
    • Maintain a clean work area.
    • Actively participate in continuous improvement by using available technology.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the general manager or supervisor.

    Qualifications:

    • Must be able to read and write English in order to complete job requirements.
    • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. repeatedly, without assistance.
    • Must be able to work in a non-air conditioned environment (hot & cold).
    • Must be able to work on feet for extended periods of time while walking, standing, climbing or bending as necessary to complete the job requirements of Material Handler.

    Michaels Distribution Center is looking for a Material Handler to join our team. The Material Handler will work closely with the Warehouse and Operations teams to process and move inventory. The Material Handler will also assist in the packaging of inventory and shipping of orders.

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent required
    • Prior experience in a warehouse environment, preferred
    • Ability to lift 50 pounds, occasionally up to 100 pounds, occasionally over your head
    • Ability to work effectively with others in a fast-paced environment
    • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions
    • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
    • Must be able to work overtime as needed
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively or over 100 pounds repetitively
    • Forklift experience a plus

    Responsibilities:

    • Package orders accurately and efficiently according to company standards using best practices for packaging materials.
    • Receive inventory and materials from wareroom staff and process accurately. Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including face mask, gloves, steel toe boot, etc.

    Maintain cleanliness of work area and all storage areas are thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis. Pack orders carefully so that they are not damaged in transit. This includes using cleaning equipment such as a sledgehammer or steam hammer.
