Job Summary:
Serves as an expert resource for faculty, various college committees, and others to provide guidance and coordination for highly effective distance education practices and strategies that support academic excellence and student success. Serves as a key member of the Instructional Design and Teaching Technology (IDTT) team and consultant to internal stakeholders.
Essential Functions:
1. Provides consulting and expert advice to faculty, departments, and others on all aspects of highly effective distance education practice, to include course development and enhancement, modality changes, new program development, student experience and engagement, and technology integration.2. Identifies, produces, and delivers appropriate professional development opportunities for faculty based on needs analysis and emerging research, in concert with college strategies and goals.3. Leads the collaborative development, delivery, and evaluation of the colleges primary distance education support programs, such as online teaching certification and course review process.4. Coordinates the development of distance education policy and procedure and the fulfillment of distance education accreditation, reporting, and compliance obligations.5. Collaborates with college stakeholders to address student readiness for online learning and other support initiatives to ensure the success of distance education students.6. Analyzes course and learning data to inform continuous improvement of distance education practices.7. Engages in professional development to maintain expert status in domains relevant to distance education and online learning.8. Models a research- and data-informed approach to professional development and consulting, maintaining a service orientation and effective working relationships with all stakeholders.9. Models and supports practices promoting inclusion, accessibility, and engagement in all areas of the educational experience and achievement of college institutional outcomes.10. Serves on college committees and contributes to college-wide initiatives and goals as assigned.

Accountabilities:
Under the limited supervision of the Director of Instructional Design and Teaching Technology, the Distance Education Learning Designer works in collaboration with faculty and staff to ensure distance education programming, student experiences, and college strategies are highly effective and support academic excellence and student success.
Job Specifications:
Bachelors degree in education, technology, design, or related field. Two years full time relevant experience in distance education, to include course development, delivery of professional development for educators, working with subject matter experts, and related activities. Ability to analyze, communicate, and apply emerging research and best practices in aspects of distance education: learning design, pedagogy, technology, assessment, accessibility, and student experience.
Expertise and knowledge of distance education issues related to accreditation, compliance, and intellectual property. Ability to work independently and on a team as part of a complex organization. Excellent communication, organizational, and consulting skills. Experience using a learning management system and other appropriate learning technologies.
Preferred: Advanced degree and/or certifications in relevant fields. Four years full time relevant experience in distance education, to include course development, delivery of professional development for educators, working with subject matter experts, and related activities. Experience with various content authoring or multimedia development tools. Experience at a community college and understanding of its unique mission.
- Experience teaching in a distance education context strongly preferred.
