    About the Position:

    The Office of Disability Support Services (DSS) strives to increase access and retention for students with permanent and temporary disabilities by ensuring equitable treatment in all aspects of campus life. The program acts as a catalyst and agent for compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations mandating equal opportunity and access for person with disabilities. Our office provides co-curricular and academically related services which empower students with disabilities to achieve academic and personal self-determination. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Disability Management and Housing Accommodations Specialist (Student Services Professional III). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

    Under the direction of the Associate Director of Student Support, the Student Services Professional III will independently coordinate the provision of accommodations and services for students enrolled at CSUF who have a qualified disability and require access to programs and services. The role will primarily function as the liaison and resource to Housing and Residential Engagement (HRE) for reviewing and implementing housing accommodation requests. The role will develop and create policy and procedures regarding housing accommodations. That will include regularly meeting with HRE staff to share updates regarding trends in student requests, student concerns, and legislation that impacts housing. The role will be the primary contact for HRE in the DSS and attend various HRE events to provide immediate DSS related support when necessary.

    This position will also function as a Disability Management Specialist and support students with disabilities in classroom accommodations. This role will serve as the primary contact for a caseload of students, which can include prospective students, newly admitted students, and current CSUF students. Duties will include: review highly sensitive and confidential disability documentation, determine reasonable accommodations, and provide on-going disability management support. Assess and determines the nature and extent of a wide variety of disabilities, necessary accommodations, and required support services. Advises students regarding classroom accommodations and any disability-related challenges with education/career options and choices. Consults with staff regarding student needs and disability related course concerns. Consults with faculty regarding student needs and disability related course concerns. Assists with the coordination of projects and programs for students, faculty, and the campus-at-large. Interprets Federal and State laws and regulations to students, faculty, and the campus-at-large. Other duties as assigned.


    Essential Qualifications


    Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution plus three years of professional student services work in the field. A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university and the appropriate internship or clinical training in a relevant field may be substituted for three years of the required professional experience.

    Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs and activities. Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public. Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters. Ability to complete assignments without detailed instructions. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities, and the overall organization.

    A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


    Preferred Qualifications


    Master’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Counseling, Education, Higher Education Administration, Educational Psychology or Rehabilitation Counseling, or Disability Services. Successful experience in a disability specialist or advising role, particularly with college students in a higher education environment. Minimum of five years’ experience working with individuals with disabilities in an educational setting. Working knowledge of CSU guidelines and practices.
