Disability Claims Examiner, Sr. jobs in Fairfield, CT

Disability Resource Network, Inc. is a not-for-profit with locations in Derby, CT and Bridgeport, CT. DRN operates DDS day programs as well as alternative education programs. We are looking to hire Paraprofessionals for our alternative education program at our Bridgeport location.

The Paraprofessionals are responsible for providing support to students ages 14-18 years old who are special education students. Many of these students also have involvement in the juvenile justice system. Paraprofessionals are responsible for implementing the student's schedule, maintaining the student's safety, and encouraging the students to participate in activities. Paraprofessionals will implement lesson plans with the students under the guidance of a Special Education teacher. Paraprofessionals will transport students to and from home using a company vehicle, as well as take the student out into the community for activities.

The position is primarily Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm per week.

Duties include:

• Implement daily scheduled activities for students
• Record keeping and documentation in the form of progress notes, reports, etc.
• Monitoring student interaction with other people
• Assisting students out in the community
• Maintaining the safety of the classroom setting
• Display enthusiasm and motivational energy
• Implementing PMT restrains, if necessary
• Taking client out into the community for scheduled outings

Requirements for Hire:

• Minimum 2 years experience working with students, preferably students with disabilities
• Valid driver's license
• Clean criminal background and motor vehicle history (all employees undergo a background check prior to hire and annually)
• Minimum high school diploma/GED
• Minimum 18 years old
• Must be proficient in speaking, reading and writing in the English language
• Physical requirements: Must be able to keep up with the pace of the schedule
• Applicants should be team players who are flexible, reliable and have positive attitudes.
• All new hires must have either the first two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna COVID19 vaccine or the single dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

This position requires CPR certification and PMT certification. Please let us know if you have that certification. If not, DRN will send you for the certifications.
