Director of International Education leads and directs all aspects of the institution's international programs. Oversees programs, activities, faculty affairs, and academic support services. Being a Director of International Education develops and implements strategies to attract and retain students and faculty. Oversees the operations of the study abroad and foreign exchange programs, the international admissions process, and English language programs. Additionally, Director of International Education ensures that the curriculum remains current and is in compliance with accreditation standards. Monitors the documentation and visa application processes. Oversees the departmental budget and management of expenditures throughout the year. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Director of International Education typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.       Job Summary
      This director, Secondary Education reports to the senior director of Secondary Education. The Secondary Division of the Anchorage School District is composed of eight comprehensive high schools, nine alternative schools, and ten middle schools. The director of Secondary Education coordinates and supervises high school activities, discipline, and citizen outreach. This is an Exempt position with a retirement association with the Alaska Teachers' Retirement System (TRS).

      Job Requirements
      The following are required:
      • A master’s degree in educational administration or a related field with an emphasis in secondary education.
      • Possess or have the ability to possess by start date, an Alaska type B administrative certificate with a grade level endorsement covering 7-12.
      • Three years of satisfactory school administrative experience.
      • Two years of supervisory experience.
      • Knowledge, background, and training in supervision and management of secondary schools.
      • Experience coordinating athletic and other school based and school district activities.
      • Recent administrative experiences which include developing and managing budgets.
      • Evidence of exceptional communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
      The following are preferred:
      • Prior teaching and/or administrative experience in public school is preferred.
      Essential Job Functions
      • Supervises, evaluates, and provides direction for secondary principals.
      • Serves as the point of contact for assigned schools and their principals.
      • Coordinates secondary school athletics and activities.
      • Performs as ASD liaison to various outside agencies.
      • Provides training to assistant principals on matters of curriculum, student discipline and activities.
      • Mediates disputes between parents, teachers, administrators, and students and investigates and responds to citizen complaints.
      • Supports principals in the areas of instructional improvement and effective practices.
      • Promotes professional growth for principals.
      • Collaborates regularly with central office leaders to support building principals.
      • Works with all bargaining units to reach resolution of concerns.
      • Coordinates and monitors student long-term suspension and/or expulsion requirements.
      • Works collaboratively with the division relative to assistant principal staffing and hiring issues.
      • Maintains rapport and respect of secondary school principals.
      • Develops, reviews, and adjusts staffing assignments with the senior director.
      • Assists in preparing a variety of secondary school administrative reports.
      Physical /Mental Demands
      The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.
