Director of Customer Insights develops and directs customer/consumer insights strategic projects to collect, study and utilize data reflecting customer behaviors, sentiments, trends, and preferences to support product development decisions and shape marketing actions. Leads insights team in market research initiatives focused on using customer, sales, brand, industry trends, and other significant data in statistical analysis. Being a Director of Customer Insights designs and implements qualitative and quantitative research projects and methodologies including focus groups, interviews, and surveys that yield data required for developing insights to measure customer perceptions and satisfaction. Interprets research findings and marketing program results into insights and guidance for strategic product development. Additionally, Director of Customer Insights requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Director of Customer Insights manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Principle Duties and Responsibilities
1. Works with the Sr. Manager of Customer Marketing & Analytics and Brand teams to support execution of strategic growth plans.
2. Expert in syndicated research and analytical tools (e.g., Circana/IRI, ACNielsen, 84.51/Kroger) used to analyze and report on category performance, shopper behavior, market trends, and competitive activities, to identify key insights that inform marketing and sales strategies.
3. Develops reports and frameworks to collect, analyze, and present internal and external data for review and distribution.
4. Aligns with Brand and Sales teams to assess performance of brand and customer marketing campaigns, including but not limited to, promotion strategies, at-shelf merchandising tactics, and key trade initiatives.
5. Collaborates across departments to provide critical analyses, reporting or special project work.
6. Proactively reviews and reports on competitive channel activity for key brands, customers, and geographies.
7. Works with Sales teams for preparation of key customer appointments, as needed.
8. Leads category and sales channel research and custom database management.
Job Specifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing or a related field and 7 or more years’ experience in marketing, category management, consumer insights; or MBA and 5 or more years’ experience performing market research preferred.
2. Expert in syndicated marketing analytics tools and software platforms for consumer-packaged goods
3. Proficient in data-driven decision-making and problem-solving skills.
4. Strong understanding of consumer behavior, retail trends, and customer insights.
5. Ability to convey stories using charts and graphs.
6. Excellent project management and organizational skills, with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
7. Strong communication and presentation skills.
8. Strong PC skills, with expertise in Microsoft Office Suite.
9. Team player with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
10. Results- and detail-oriented, curious, and driven to excellence.
Working Conditions
1. Work is primarily performed in an office environment with periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer.
2. May spend up to 10% of time on travel.
