Digital Collection Librarian maintains a library's digital collection of books, serials, documents, audiovisuals, or other materials, and assists groups and individuals in locating, obtaining and using materials. Trains others in the creation or preservation of digital resources and the use of the library's digital system(s). Being a Digital Collection Librarian is responsible for the library's open source projects and procures licenses for digital content. Interacts with IT staff in selecting/developing, implementing and maintaining the library's technical infrastructure. Additionally, Digital Collection Librarian requires a master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited school in a related field. Typically reports to a director. The Digital Collection Librarian manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Digital Collection Librarian typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Ability to provide class, group and individual instruction in using library-media center resources
Ability to provide guidance in the use of print and electronic reference tools and research techniques
Ability to maintain and update library database so users can find materials
Ability to provide guidance in the selection of reading materials
Ability to assist staff and students in the selection of appropriate materials to support units of instruction
Ability to work with parents providing outreach, literacy information, and family reading materials
Ability to work with students in scheduled literacy and literature activities
Ability to work with teachers in collaboration for effective learning opportunities
Ability to use and work with varied technology for educational purposes
