Diet Technician screens and identifies patients with nutritional risk using scoring guidelines and initiates referrals for dietetic assessment. Institutes basic nutrition plans including individualized menu plans and monitors intake and acceptance of required meals and supplements. Being a Diet Technician computes analysis of patients intake and calorie count results. Requires an associate degree. Additionally, Diet Technician typically requires Dietetic Technician - Registered (DTR). Typically reports to a dietitian. The Diet Technician works under moderate supervision.     The Culinary Diet Tech provides nutrition services to patients under. This position interacts with clinical caregivers, patients, and patient’s family members to explain the meal process.

    Work Schedule

    Part Time, 20 hours per week

    Shift Assignments : Mornings, Evenings & Weekends

    Job Essentials

    Assists in meal selection for patients as established by standard guidelines

    Records and modifies patient meal orders based on physician diet orders and Intermountain Modified Diet Guideline

    Works with the clinical team to provide excellent patient care

    Uses technology and meal ordering platform to facilitate the nutrition care process and needed departmental reports

    Communicates patient needs to room service assembly area

    Collects and inputs nutrition screening information

    Performs functions of room service call center and Bedside Connect

    Provides exceptional customer service in all customer and patient interactions

    May complete calorie count and nutrition analysis as dictated by facility

    May check and verify that patients receive appropriate meal selections on the room service line

    May deliver patient trays according to department policy to provide safe and efficient meal service

    Other duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications

    Food handler's permit (as required by facility. Remote workers may be exempt from this requirement).

    Demonstrated good communication and interpersonal skills.

    Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills.

    Demonstrated math skills.

    Demonstrated ability to transcribe information quickly and accurately.

    Preferred : Food service or healthcare experience.

    Preferred : Coursework in Nutrition

    Interact with patients and co-workers requiring the employee to verbally communicate information, as well as understand spoken information.

    Operate food service equipment or computer requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.

    See and read labels, monitors, and documents.

    Carry, push / pull, and walk while transporting food, supplies, and service equipment.

    Climb, squat, kneel, and lift to clean equipment and reach and retrieve food and supplies.

    Remain standing for long periods of time to perform work.

    Tolerate extremes in temperature such as performing work at a grill or in a refrigerator.
