Diet Clerk serves meals to patients and assists in various processes related to the preparation and delivery of meals. Sets up trays and utensils according to patient requirements. Being a Diet Clerk assists with food preparation tasks. Completes general cleaning, maintenance, and sanitation of work area. Additionally, Diet Clerk typically requires a high school diploma. Assists in the service of meals for patients, visitors, and staff. Diet Aide may be responsible for any of the following tasks: unpacking and visually inspecting food stock; preparing, pouring, and portioning food; carrying heavy trays, pots, etc.; delivering meals to patients; maintaining sanitary work environment and food handling; cleaning work station area and equipment; washing dishes, pots, silverware, etc. Integrates the hospital’s mission and “Guiding Principles” into daily practice.
1. Prepares food trays for delivery to patients, following established guidelines for safe food handling.
2. Cleans and sanitizes all food preparation equipment and ensures that it is kept in safe and operable condition.
3. Assists with keeping Dietary Department stocked with essential patient food items.
4. Operates dish machine according to established procedures.
5. Maintains all records regarding patient diet information.
6. Utilize concepts of age/developmental stages in interactions with patients and families.
7. Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and staff. Assess the risks for safety and implement appropriate precautions. Complies with appropriate and approved safety standards.
8. Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of the department.
Minimum Education and Experience
· High School Diploma or the equivalent in education or experience required.
· Food Handlers license required.
· Patient related service experience preferred.
· CPR certification preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Knowledge of patient diets and safe food handling requirements and use of Nutritional Care Manual.
· Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures.
· Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
