Diesel Mechanic performs inspection, maintenance, repairs, and overhauls of diesel engines. Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems. Being a Diesel Mechanic utilizes computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes. Replaces and/or refurbishes parts. Additionally, Diesel Mechanic maintains maintenance logs according to requirements. Ensures services provided follow all quality standards and safety procedures. May perform DOT annual inspections on vehicles. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically requires Commercial Driver License (CDL) - Class A. Typically requires a Certificate in Automotive & Diesel Technology. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Diesel Mechanic works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. Our Diesel Mechanics / Technicians perform various types of repairs and diagnostics on heavy duty trucks and equipment, collaborating with other team members while helping to promote a safe work environment.
Job Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
· Reading work orders and collaborating with the service manager to evaluate the tasks required.
· Preparing work plans after fully scoping out the issues
· Running diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpreting the results to offer suitable solutions
· Inspect and repair/replace vehicle systems (based on abilities), including engines, drivetrain, hydraulic, fuel, air, electrical, HVAC, brakes and suspension.
· Conducting field visits or service calls in the case of an emergency or sudden breakdown.
· Test driving repaired vehicles to gauge performance.
· Performing DOT inspections (will assist in completion of certification).
· Maintaining work order records of parts inventory, work completed and serviced vehicles.
· Maintain a clean and professional work setting including tools, equipment, shop and service vehicle.
