Diesel Mechanic performs inspection, maintenance, repairs, and overhauls of diesel engines. Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems. Being a Diesel Mechanic utilizes computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes. Replaces and/or refurbishes parts. Additionally, Diesel Mechanic maintains maintenance logs according to requirements. Ensures services provided follow all quality standards and safety procedures. May perform DOT annual inspections on vehicles. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically requires Commercial Driver License (CDL) - Class A. Typically requires a Certificate in Automotive & Diesel Technology. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Diesel Mechanic works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. Looking for 2 Diesel Mechanics for the following shifts:
Night Shift - Monday - Friday
Night Shift - Tuesday - Saturday
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· You will perform all levels of preventive maintenance services
· Maintain work area appearance and safety
· Diesel repairs, service & diagnostics
· Servicing customers
· Driving to Road calls
· Maintain certifications. Desire to continue seeking training classes and ASE certifications
· Prior diesel mechanic experience
· CDL Class B – driving throughout Long Island
· Diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
· Perform duties with little or no supervision and in a timely and efficient manner
· Inspect trucks to ensure that they are in proper working condition
· Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries and lubricating equipment and machinery
· Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose
· Repairing and troubleshooting of major components such as engine, transmission, and differentials
· Other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor
· Comply with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards
SKILLS:
· 1 years of automotive or diesel mechanic experience. 3 years preferred
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Diesel Mechanic / Technician training not needed but is a plus
· A valid driver’s license is required
· CDL a plus
· Truck mechanical aptitude
· Union Shop exposure a plus
· Ability to communicate professionally with customers and co-workers
