Diabetes Educator educates patients on the necessary lifestyle changes involved in a diabetes diagnosis, including nutrition, medication, physical activity and glucose testing. Collects patient data to monitor health status and proactively manage the patient's condition. Being a Diabetes Educator facilitates skill development and behavior modification so that the patient is able to successfully manage the disease. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in nursing or equivalent. Additionally, Diabetes Educator typically required to be a Certified Care and Education Specialist (CDCES). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Diabetes Educator occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Education:
BSN
Training/ experience in adult education/ learning methodologies
Experience:
5 years nursing experience in an acute care setting
At least 1 year as charge nurse
Adult education teaching experience
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:
Current RN Licensure in good standing with the Arkansas State Board of Nursing
Current AHA BLS and ACLS provider cards
Current AHA PALS provider card
Current AHA Instructor status in at least one discipline
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to communicate professionally in written and oral form across all levels of the institution
Strong computer skills
Great customer service skills
Willingness to become a member of the team
Able to work a flexible schedule, including occasional nights and/ or weekends
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
