    SUMMARY

    The Museum Security Officer plays a vital role in the daily operations of the Administration Department. He / She monitors the integrity, safety, and security of all Museum properties; responds to emergency situations administering first aid / CPR when necessary; interacts with and directs outside emergency services: SAPD, SAFD and paramedics while on Museum property; maintains crowd control to ensure the safety and security of artifacts, patrons and staff; ensures compliance with museum policies and procedures; observes, reports, and responds to acts which may threaten the safety or security of the facility, its contents, staff, visitors, and their personal property. Under the umbrella Museum Services, Security also assists with Special Event set up and take down; assists Shipping and Receiving with deliveries; and assists the staff as needed. This position requires and individual who: can receive direction without question or comment; is observant; willing to confront staff and visitors when security or policy is violated; can work independently under stressful conditions.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • To ensure the safety, security and integrity of all Museum properties, artifacts and collection;
    • To observe, report and respond to security, safety and emergency situations independently or as directed;
    • Respond to reports of ill or injured employees, visitors/patrons; and notifying Control if emergency services are needed or desired;
    • To monitor and respond to radio traffic, including hourly roll call while always maintaining radio etiquette;
    • To perform patrols of the facilities and grounds;
    • To monitor access and maintain the accountability of staff into closed or restricted areas;
    • Unlock gates, doors, and monitor lighting as directed;
    • Perform escorts for visitors, staff and artifacts;
    • Ensure that all staff and visitors comply with Bowers Museum policy;
    • To report all noncompliance of Security policies and procedures immediately to the duty Supervisor;
    • To learn the locations of all pull-stations and fire extinguishers;
    • To learn all emergency medical and evacuation procedures;
    • Respond to all reported abusive and threatening behavior, mediating, advising, confronting, and or escorting perpetrators off property;
    • Verify that all staff and visitors are wearing identification such as staff ID or visitors badge while on property;
    • Monitor the cleanliness of assigned area;
    • Follow all Museum policies and procedures;
    • To set up and take down special event equipment including: tables, chairs, signs, audio/video equipment, stanchions, lights, stages and podiums
    • To report and correct when possible, all safety hazards on the property;
    • To monitor temperature and humidity readings inside the gallery spaces and report unusual fluctuations and or irregular readings to duty Supervisor and the Maintenance Technician;
    • To make a report of any incidents or accidents that occur on Museum property. Officers are responsible for typing up the report they generate;
    • To log, tag and file any Lost and Found property entering the information into the Lost and Found log;
    • To move boxes, furniture, lights, and any other equipment as requested (approximately 50 lbs);
    • To make pick up and deliveries at off-site locations as requested by the staff;
    • Other duties as assigned
    • Conduct all responsibilities in a safe manner according to regulations (OSHA, IIPP, etc.)

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and/or Experience

    High School diploma or equivalent. Military veterans are encouraged to apply.

    • Experience working crowd control
    • Knowledge of Police radio codes
    • First Aid / CPR certified, a plus
    • Familiarity with industry terms and processes
