Museum Store Associate, Temporary Seasonal April through November

  • We are looking for a Museum Store Associate to work approximately 14 hours per week for a Temporary, Seasonal position during the weekends. Typical hours worked will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays and 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sundays. The position is from April through November 2024.

    Candidate will provide excellent customer service and will have strong communication skills to make customers feel welcome in our Museum and store.

    This position is ideal for someone interested in a weekend position and able to work additional hours as needed for events, holidays, and to cover for other staff absences.

    You will help identify visitor’s needs, present and answer questions about our merchandise and promote the gift shop, museum, and events. A friendly, positive attitude and a desire to promote Appalachia is what we are looking for. Ultimately, you will ensure that visitors leave Foxfire wanting to return and invite others and you will also contribute to the museum’s profitability.

    Responsibilities

    • Retail Sales
    • Greet and inform visitors
    • Promote events, memberships, and magazine subscriptions
    • Have knowledge of inventory and assess a visitor’s needs
    • Opening and closing the museum
    • Answer visitors’ questions about the museum, products, and classes offered
    • Cross-sell products
    • Ensure racks are fully stocked
    • Manage returns of merchandise
    • Coordinate with the Museum Store Manager and other staff as needed on projects & events
    • Inform visitors about tours and classes
    • Provide visitor feedback to the Museum Store Manager
    • Stay up-to-date with new products/events
    • Keep gift shop and bathrooms clean and tidy

    Skills

    • Dependability and attention to detail
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Proven work experience in Retail Sales and customer service
    • Understanding of the retail sales process
    • Ability to use retail sales software, basic computer and office skills
    • Knowledge of inventory stocking procedures

    Job Type: Part-time

    Pay: From $12.00 per hour

    Expected hours: 14 – 20 per week
