    ABOUT THE DULUTH CHILDREN’S MUSEUM

    The Duluth Children’s Museum is a place where children begin their lifelong exploration of an ever-expanding world. The museum’s mission is to engage children in hands-on learning through creative play and interactive exhibits.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Engage children in play through the use of exhibit components
    • Facilitate educational programming, following Museum program procedures and expectations
    • Support day camps, outreach events, and workshops
    • Greet and welcome adults and children, engage in conversation, and accurately answer guest questions regarding all aspects of the Museum.
    • Maintain clean, safe and inviting environments in all Museum spaces
    • Actively address guest feedback and work to improve overall guest experience
    • Maintain current knowledge of all membership, programming, special events and exhibits
    • Follow opening and closing procedures for effective and accurate Museum operations
    • Operate and maintain knowledge of Museum’s point-of-sale and crm database systems
    • Support membership sales, including active selling, taking payment and data entry
    • Support Gift Shop including cashiering, stocking, cleaning, and merchandising
    • Answer and direct incoming calls
    • Coordinate with and support volunteers throughout the Museum
    • Assist in training new employees, as assigned
    • Support floor operations and programming initiatives, as assigned
    • Other duties as assigned

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    Minimum Education and Experience

    • One year working with children in an educational setting
    • One year working directly with crm's and point of sale systems.
    • One year of customer service experience.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Knowledge and capacity to work effectively with people from diverse professional, cultural and personal backgrounds.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of working directly with crms and pos systems
    • Excellent customer service skills and ability to overcome objections and resolve issues.
    • Ability to work with a positive outlook in a changing environment and adjust priorities.
    • High degree of confidentiality, diplomacy, discretion and tact.
    • Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to achieve results both individually and working with others.
    • Knowledge of and ability to use computer and other technical resources to effectively accomplish work.
    • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
    • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
    • Ability to exhibit a positive, friendly and helpful attitude with museum visitors and be sensitive to their needs while maintaining professional boundaries.
    • Proven ability to ensure customer outreach satisfaction and consistent service.
    • Ability to work independently as well as on teams on specific tasks within organizational policies and procedures.
    • Strong relationship building and communication skills to represent the organization and interact with outside individuals from the community.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation:

    • Physical Demands:
    • Ability to use a PC/laptop, requiring repetitive motion of fingers, hands and wrists.
    • Required to provide interactive hands-on programming to children for extended periods of time.
    • Ability to lift materials and equipment for educational activities (50lbs)
    • Ability to work flexible hours (outside of regular operating hours) to accommodate the needs of the museum.

    WORK CONDITIONS
    This position will be scheduled 12-20 hours/week. Our current operating hours are 9:00 am-4:00 pm (schedule will be between 8:30am-5:30pm) Tuesdays through Saturdays, with occasional evening events. Saturday availability is required. Sunday hours for birthday parties & facility rentals may also be available.

    Job Type: Part-time

    Pay: $13.00-$16.00 per hour, dependent on experience
