Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Public Defender to join our legal team. As a Public Defender, you will be responsible for providing legal representation to individuals who cannot afford private counsel. Your role will involve litigating cases, conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, and negotiating on behalf of your clients. Duties: - Represent clients in criminal and civil proceedings - Conduct thorough legal research to build strong cases - Draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and briefs - Interview clients to gather necessary information for their defense - Investigate facts and gather evidence to support your client's case - Advocate for your clients' rights and interests in court - Negotiate plea agreements with prosecutors when appropriate - Collaborate with other members of the legal team to strategize defense tactics Experience: - Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school - Admitted to practice law in the jurisdiction where the position is located - Prior experience as a Public Defender or in criminal defense is preferred - Strong litigation skills and ability to effectively present arguments in court - Proficient in legal research and writing - Familiarity with legal research tools such as Lexis-Nexis and Westlaw - Excellent organizational and time management skills - Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines - Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with clients If you are passionate about defending the rights of individuals who cannot afford private representation, we encourage you to apply for this rewarding position.
