    Notre Dame Learning's Office of Digital Learning seeks a professional Learning Designer (LD) informed by the state of the art in the field of learning science and instructional design for a primarily in-person position at the University of Notre Dame. The Learning Design Team collaborates with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to create online and hybrid courses, design effective digital learning assets, and advocate effective, evidence-based practices in various modalities. Additionally, our team offers consultation focused upon programmatic design, curricular planning, and determining the scope and viability of projects.
    We are looking for a colleague who is experienced in instructional/learning design and effective practices for teaching and learning in online and blended environments.     The person selected for this position will:
    • Work closely with faculty and learning professionals to create effective web-based learning experiences and learning objects within a course, autonomous proof-of-concept work, and/or web-based resource(s) for multiple audiences (e.g., students, faculty, and the general public);
    • Collaborate with and provide sustained expertise to the project or course design team from analysis to delivery;
    • Anchor design decisions in evidence-based practices in order to build effective online learning experiences that meet the goals established by faculty, programs, and/or other stakeholders;
    • Maintain professional fluency with current research and best practices (including design methodologies and approaches) and use that expertise to inform design decisions, procedures, and habits of mind;
    • Leverage tools and systems best suited to support effective, sustainable, and engaging user experiences;
    • Advocate for and collaborate with University partners in the implementation of accessibility and inclusive design principles, such as creating materials that are accessible to global learners and learners with disabilities;
    • Review course design decisions to ensure that activities and resources are appropriately aligned with learning objectives and desired course outcomes and provide feedback to course design teams on consistency and appropriateness of course content and presentation;
    • Design and deliver workshops and other training related to evidence-based course design and effective pedagogical use of the Learning Management System or other topics and concepts as needed;
    • Engage in research that aligns with and demonstrates the mission and work of Notre Dame Learning;
    • Collaborate with University partners like the Office of Information Technology, Teaching and Learning Technologies, etc. to optimize the ND student learning experience.



    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Masters degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Learning Design, or related field or Bachelors degree with three (3) to five (5) years of demonstrated excellence working as a learning designer at the university level;
    • Strong knowledge of learning theories, effective online/blended teaching and learning practices, and instructional design models;
    • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of course authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, etc.);
    • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills;
    • Ability to be a team player;
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills; and
    • Previous experience using a learning management system (LMS).



    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience with all aspects of operational project management for online course development projects, including tracking, scheduling, setting timelines, and ensuring execution of process steps;
    • Experience with Canvas LMS and/or Coursera;
    • Experience with HTML, CSS, and/or LTIs; and
    • Experience with video editing software (E.g., Camtasia, Adobe Premier, etc.).
