    POSITION SUMMARY: Functions as a Junior (Entry Level) Designer, model and prepare drawings for the construction and repair of marine craft and floating structures such as ships, barges, and tugs.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: Because Eastern Shipbuilding is continually growing to meet the needs of our customers, the essential duties and responsibilities may be different than described.

    • Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
    • Use computer assisted design/drafting equipment to prepare drawings related to the design of a ship.
    • Responsible for drawing multiple views of any section or part of a ship, depicting relationship of components and parts.
    • May require drafting drawings/sketches in 2D for production.
    • Preform other duties as assigned.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

    Job Requirements

    Education/Experience: Associate’s degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology or similar field of study. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Skills: Working experience with AutoCAD (2D) and reading/interpreting drawings required. Intermediate level MS Windows, Word, Excel, and Outlook experience required. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. On-the-job training will be provided in FORAN for those with experience in the other listed software. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, display an attention for detail, and function as a team player. Behavioral Attributes: Integrity, flexibility/adaptability, initiative, interpersonal skills, attention to detail and multi-tasking. Maintain the confidential integrity of details pertaining to Eastern Shipbuilding Group. Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident Card required.

    This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, and smartphones. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
