Design Engineer designs, develops, and enhances new and existing products/product lines. Evaluates and recommends specifications and ensures products meet the technical and functional requirements. Being a Design Engineer recommends and follows reliable, efficient, and cost-effective procedures. Performs feasibility, functional, and quality testing of designs. Additionally, Design Engineer works with other members of the engineering staff to ensure project milestones are met and that projects are completed according to established timelines. This position is great for a process engineer who loves the craft beverage industry and has broad abilities across multiple disciplines. You'll help design and engineer our projects and product offerings, which will include design engineering, pipework design, sizing, component selection, and other project and product design duties for all production equipment used in craft beverage production plants, such as milling equipment, brewhouses, cellar tanks, heating sources (low-pressure steam boilers, forced-air burners, and electric heaters), glycol chillers, and packaging equipment. Occasionally, you might need to oversee the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of various equipment.
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Research and develop (plan, design, and engineer) new product and existing product improvement offerings, including brewhouses, vessels, process pipelines, controls, and other equipment.
Develop, perform, and record necessary engineering calculations for product design, project work, and other needs.
Draft product P&IDs,pipework drawings, and other design drawings in 2D and 3D CAD, laying out, and specifying technical devices, parts, and equipment, primarily using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
Help with component selection, vendor selection, item specification/choice, and other technical procurement needs.
Develop and revise product manuals and guides to assist customers in installation, operation, and maintenance of equipment.
Work with Brewery Design Consultants on various sales and project engineering and technical needs in order to provide equipment recommendations, design and engineer plant layouts, and to provide advice on the use of products.
Occasionally travel to job sites for investigation, installation, and repair.
Confer with engineers or other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, or provide technical information.
Advise quality assurance department on technical matters such as key characteristics and inspection plans or methods.
Advise production on equipment designs, production needs, and best manufacturing methods.
Investigate equipment or production failures or difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and recommend remedial actions.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Must have a strong understanding of process engineering in a food and beverage plant
Must have a bachelor’s degree in an engineering field from a four-year college/university or higher (or equivalent industry experience).
Must have experience drafting P&IDs and modeling process pipework in 3D (ideally in SolidWorks).

Relevant engineering experience or significant education in any of the following fields: process engineering, pipe and plant design, sanitary design, automation and controls, electrical engineering, and/or pressure vessel design, particularly in the food and beverage industry.
Industry knowledge of brewing, food and beverage production, and/or packaging processes.
Commercial brewing experience or experience in a relevant maintenance or engineering role.
Strong drafting knowledge/experience in AutoCAD and SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor.
