  • GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Provides professional practice time, attention and energies to the practice of dentistry and the reasonable administrative demands of the position.


    SUPERVISION EXERCISED
    : Direct and indirect supervision of designated professional staff;


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Examines individuals(adult and children) requesting care, diagnoses their dental/oral conditions, prescribes and carries out an appropriate dental/oral treatment, or refers individuals for specialty consultation or treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines.
    • Accurate and complete patient care documentation in electronic medical record
    • Educates individuals about preventive health
    • Develops a complete treatment plan according to evidence based practices
    • Assist with the implementation of Dental Department policies, procedures and protocols
    • Provides consultation to the Board of Directors regarding dental and oral health issues
    • Travels when necessary to fulfill the clinic’s needs and attends meetings as necessary
    • Serve as a leader within the Dental Department to assist in increasing work flow and productivity, assisting with personnel matters, participate in work place safety, and assisting with interventions aimed at improving clinical performance outcomes
    • Assist with marketing dental services at all clinic locations
    • Works collaboratively with the medical team to integrate comprehensive primary preventive health services

    Treatment Room Management and Sterilization


    • Check to ensure that dental units are ready, stocked and clean at all times
    • Oversee cleanliness of the treatment room according to sterilization procedures
    • Disinfect treatment rooms according the OSHA regulations
    • Sterilize all instruments and hand pieces according to OSHA regulations
    • Organize trays, instruments and treatment room drawers at all times
    • Ensure that office sterilization procedures document is on display
    • Send out promptly and monitor all dental laboratory cases
    • Implement a preventative maintenance/cleaning schedule for dental equipment
    • Maintain dental office emergency kits and nitrous and oxygen tanks
    • Follow laboratory procedures according to office protocol


    QUALIFICATIONS: Licensed to practice dentistry in the State of Louisiana.
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required. Computer skills are needed because the Dentist will maintain and process patient records in an electronic environment.


    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
    : Graduating from an accredited dental school; Completion of an accredited general practice residency program/pediatric dentistry residency program preferred; Minimum of five (5) years clinical experience preferred; Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills required; Ability to maintain appropriate clinical privileges required, hospital privileges; FTCA coverage or private professional malpractice insurance obtainable. BLS, ALCS (preferred).PALS (if pediatric dentist). Eligible to administer Nitrous Oxide/Oral Sedation if the site permits and required.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents; Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members within the business community; Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format; Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or the Board of Directors.


    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical solutions.


    REASONING ABILITY:
    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
    Unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of Louisiana; Current CPR (BLS) certifications; Medicaid provider number; ACLS preferred. Board certified in specialty, if applicable.
