About Welman: We’re a local nonprofit organization uplifting our community at the intersection of imagination, education, and the environment. Through creative repurposing of surplus business waste, we give teachers the tools and support they need to provide vital hands-on learning opportunities to every student. Our organization is young and growing, and we prioritize internal promotions for individuals who demonstrate exceptional potential and dedication.
About the Role: Our Donations Specialists are outgoing and creative individuals who enjoy engaging with people of all ages in a fast-paced and flexible environment. You’ll accept and process materials received from our donors, lead volunteers in a variety of tasks, give away thousands of dollars worth of supplies to teachers in our warehouse, and help customers shop for creative reuse treasures in our retail store. Every day brings something new at Welman!
Responsibilities:
- Ensure all visitors have a joyful experience when they shop, donate, or volunteer
- Lead volunteers in organizing incoming materials, and help maintain a clean and orderly space
- Provide great customer service while receiving material donations, including kindly turning them away as needed
- Talk with shopping teachers about their classroom needs and share our creative reuse solutions with them
- Assist shoppers with out-of-reach and occasionally heavy items
- Use sound judgment in pricing materials and completing retail transactions
Requirements:
- Passionate about creativity, education, and saving the planet
- Strong communication skills and a positive attitude
- A knack for organizing and attention to detail
- Comfortable giving direction and leading volunteers of all ages and abilities in tasks
- Basic computer and smartphone skills - you’ll be trained to use our database and point of sale system
- Able to lift and carry 40 lbs, bend down and reach above head, climb a ladder, stand and walk for a full shift
