  • The Dean of Students collaborates with Park University staff, faculty, and students to ensure that student experiences align with the University’s vision, mission, core values, and strategic plan priorities. The Dean works with Directors in student services to positively impact the student experience and advance successful outcomes for Park students. The Dean has a complex set of responsibilities including, but not limited to, supervision of staff, oversight of budgets, administration of programs and services, management of buildings, decision-making for policies and procedures, and coordination with students. Specifically, the Dean of Students oversees the following functions: Student Conduct, Crises, and Advocacy, Residence Life, Counseling Center, Student Leadership and Engagement, New Student and Parent Programs, Academic Advising Center and Student Senate, in addition to collaborating with other Park faculty and staff, and external constituencies, on Park University initiatives related to student retention and cocurricular learning assessment.
    Position Accountabilities:
    • Serve on the University Provost Leadership Team that provides direction to the Office of Academic Affairs as decisions are made to improve the student experience both inside and outside the classroom. Guide the Senior Leadership and all University offices and entities when policies and procedures are created or adapted to enhance the experience of students.
    • Serve as Chief Judicial Officer for all Park University students – those in Parkville, the Kansas City Area, at Campus Centers, and Online.
    • Serve as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator for students. Alongside the the Deputy Coordinators for faculty and staff, work with the University Title IX Coordinator (the Chief Human Resources Officer) on compliance trainings and production of the annual Title IX report.
    • Support the Director of Residence Life, ensuring appropriate functioning of staff, budgets, facilities, assessments, programs and initiatives to generate summer revenue.
    • Ensure a wide scope of involvement, engagement, and leadership opportunities for the various Park student populations – in Parkville, the Kansas City area, at Campus Centers, and online – to develop greater student engagement with Park University. This includes student and parent orientation and first year experience programs that will directly impact the engagement and retention for students in the Kansas City area, online, and at campus centers.
    • Oversee cocurricular assessment within all nonacademic units at the University; work with the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment to execute training, hold units accountable to annual assessment, and participate in the analysis of trends and recommended improvements to cocurricular learning
    • Serve on the University’s Student Persistence and Completion Committee to ensure that programs and services overseen by the Dean of Students synchronize with the University’s goals.
    • Oversee the distribution and results analysis of the University’s Student Pulse survey, both implications for Student Life at Park and in relationship to the University’s strategic plan.
    • Oversee the federally mandated University complaint process; specifically, the quarterly analysis and reporting of all complaints received, resolutions, and implementation of improvements based on trends in the data.
    • Oversee the University’s Graduate Assistantship program on behalf of Academic Affairs.
    • Guide the Counseling Center and the Director of Counseling as they provide support to students with a variety of mental and emotional health needs. Work with the Center Director to establish out of-state counseling services.
    • Serve as a co-advisor to the Park Student Government Association, to ensure the officers and senators have an opportunity to grow as leaders and provide effective input to Park student policies, programs, and services.
    • Manage the relationship, service, performance, and operations for the Vendor for Dining Services and for the Vendor of Bookstore Operations, which are both third party vendors.
    • Work with Campus Center staff and faculty, Regional Directors, Campus Safety staff, and all Park faculty and staff to effectively manage advocacy needs, crisis situations and emergency responses at all the Park University campuses.
    Position Requirements:
    • Position requires Master’s degree in a related field, and an understanding of college student development and student learning. Ed.D. or Ph.D. in appropriate field is preferred.
    • Applicants must have 4-6 years progressively responsible experience at a college or university, with at least three years professional experience in orientation, mentor training, and/or leadership programs.
    • The successful candidate will have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
    • Applicants should have experience with developing student learning outcomes and providing regular assessments of programs and services.
    • Experience as a judicial officer at a college or university is required.
    • Applicants should have strong interpersonal communication skills, cross-cultural sensitivity, ability to maintain confidentiality, and strong computer and technology skills.
    • Experience in supervising staff is required.
    • Experience with teaching college students in a classroom or workshop setting is required.
    • Experience working with students at a distance is preferred.
    • Experience with developing websites and knowledge of new technologies is preferred.
    • The ability to speak multiple languages is preferred.
