Job Title: Dean of Students
Summary of Position: The Dean of Students reports directly to the Assistant Principal for Student Services. This person provides direction and leadership for student discipline and attendance in the high school as well as maintains a safe and secure environment. The dean also communicates directly with parents regarding discipline and accountability. The dean works cooperatively with all building and central office staff.
Job Requirements: - State of Illinois Professional Educator License.
- Endorsement in Secondary Education and General Administrative
Major Policy Responsibilities: The dean is responsible for following and implementing the policies of the Board of Education as well as the school rules regarding student attendance and discipline. The dean is also expected to work cooperatively with other staff members to create and maintain a safe, orderly, and secure environment.
Key functions:
A. Pupil Personnel
Authority/Responsibility: Monitors and supervises student attendance and behavior. Makes decisions regarding consequences for misbehavior. Communicates directly with parents regarding accountability and parent intervention.
Representative Activities:
- Safety/security/discipline.
- Supervises students during school and school events.
- Oversees detention system.
- Coordinates with school liaison office and student supervisors.
B. Management
Authority/Responsibility: Assists the assistant principal with management-related issues.
Representative Activities:
- Works with faculty concerning supervision, class management, and overall school security.
- Supervises bus-related issues.
- Provides feedback regarding teacher-supervisor responsibilities.
C. Professional Development
Authority/Responsibility: Collaborates with the assistant principal regarding major decisions. Trains staff regarding the measures necessary for a safe and secure environment.
Representative Activities:
- Communicates with assistant principal regarding major decisions.
- Supervises and trains staff regarding safety and security measures.
- Reviews and provides feedback on emergency plans.
