Dean of Medicine manages administrative functions of the college of medical. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Medicine leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Medicine requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Medicine manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Serves as a primary source of expertise, training, and education in matters relating to government regulation of externally funded research to the UTMB research community on behalf of the offices of Research Services. Will be responsible and acting on the Associate Director’s behalf in their absence.

Serves as a primary source of expertise, management, and training in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS) in matters relating to grant proposal development and related professional and career development initiatives for GSBS trainees (graduate students and postdocs). Specifically, this position provides grant proposal development expertise to GSBS trainees and faculty members in support of fellowships, training grants, professional development, writing studios, and other extramural funding opportunities.
