Dean of Mathematics jobs in Tennessee

Dean of Mathematics manages administrative functions of the college of mathematics. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Mathematics leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Mathematics requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Mathematics manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Mathematics typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     • Define and implement a strategic vision for the future by articulating the distinctive needs and
    opportunities of the College;
    • Support a collaborative, inclusive, and entrepreneurial spirit and a balance of teaching, research, and service within the College;
    • Ensure the College’s academic programs are of the highest caliber and are meeting the needs of the University;
    • Promote the highest commitment to academic and scholarly integrity;
    • Along with department chairs, assure the continued prominence of the faculty by prioritizing the recruitment and retention of distinguished faculty which will promote and enhance a strong research/scholarship agenda and inspire excellence in teaching and learning.
    • Identify and develop opportunities in emerging areas for new academic and research programs and interdisciplinary initiatives;
    • Support and cultivate a distinguished and accomplished faculty and staff in the College;
    • Serve as a public voice for the College’s constituents;
    • Attract external funding from federal agencies, corporations, foundations, and interested donors to support the College’s mission;
    • Advocate internally for resources to support a growing student population, faculty, and research agenda;
    • Manage and provide fiduciary stewardship for the College’s budgets; and
    • Ensure policies and procedures that govern the College are current and adhered to.
    Minimum Qualifications
    • An earned doctorate degree in a field related to the College.
    • A record of recognized achievement in teaching, research, and service that qualifies for a tenured appointment at the rank of full professor in the College.
    • Significant experience as a department chair, associate dean, dean, or similar position with similar levels of management and leadership responsibility.
    • Demonstrated outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrated budgetary/financial management responsibilities.
    • Demonstrated interest in and support of appropriate use of technology in education.
    • Demonstrated experience with grantsmanship and fundraising.
    • Demonstrated commitment to shared governance.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Demonstrated ability to articulate a vision and goals for the College and ability to develop and realize a plan to achieve these goals in conjunction with College faculty and staff and other university administrative leaders.
    • Ability to promote the College for its capabilities and accomplishments to a broad range of internal and external constituencies.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead by consensus and with transparency.
    • Demonstrated commitment to an inclusive work and learning environment.
    • Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education, graduate education, scholarship, and externally funded research.
    • Demonstrated ability to garner external funding via grantsmanship and/or donor development.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and launch new academic programs with an emphasis on enrollment growth.


    Work Hours
    Typical hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm. Additional hours if/when needed.
    Compensation and Benefits

    Salary
    Commensurate with education and experience. Executive Administrative Pay Grade 31.

    The University offers a competitive benefits package. Benefits include the accumulation of two vacation days per month and one sick leave day per month, and thirteen University holidays. Other benefits include medical and life insurance (shared cost with the university), retirement, optional 401k, and educational benefits.
