Being a Dean of Law leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Law requires a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Law manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Law typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     The Assistant Dean of Admission and Financial Aid serves as Emory Law's chief admissions officer and director of financial aid.  The leader assuming this role will have responsibilities in four key areas:  

     

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

     

    Admissions:

    • Responsible for development and execution of recruitment, admissions, yield strategies and marketing for all law school programs. Which includes:
    • Oversight of existing agreements and seeks opportunities to expand strategic recruitment efforts for LLM and MCL programs.
    • Manages contract and marketing efforts for MLS program.
    • Manages available restricted and unrestricted resources to award scholarships to attract strong candidates and support students with support by development, finance, and financial aid staff. 
    • Executes a communications strategy, in collaboration with the Office of Marketing and Communications, to support key admissions goals, including the production of relevant multi-media products (e.g., website; blogs; video). 
    • Ensures effective and professional communications with prospective applicants, applicants, admitted students, and their families. 
    • Collaborates with other School of Law and Emory University departments to ensure a positive experience for incoming students. 
    • Develops a network of professional contacts, works closely with Development and Alumni Relations to support alumni and other constituencies to enhance and expand student recruitment. 
    • Analyzes and communicates admission and financial aid goals and yield to relevant stakeholders, developing financial aid strategies with the Dean and Chief Business Officer. 
    • Responsible for enhancing international recruitment efforts working in collaboration with relevant institutional leadership. 

    Planning: 

    • Formulates admission standards and enrollment targets and conducts enrollment planning and analysis with senior institutional leadership. 
    • Develops enrollment and marketing plans to produce strong and diverse applicant pools and greater yields. 
    • Analyzes the cost and benefits of marketing strategies, recruitment programs, and admission events with input and support by the admissions team and advisement of the Dean and Chief Business Officer. 
    • In coordination with Institutional Research, produces predictive modeling reports and provides simulations to inform and establish, in coordination with the Dean of the Law School, a yearly scholarship award matrix based on historical and gathered institutional and national data.

    Compliance: 

    • Monitors and ensures compliance with ABA, University, federal and state policies and regulations. 
    • Ensures the provision of robust financial aid counseling to students, in coordination with the Emory University Office of Financial Aid, including entrance counseling, advice about loan options and repayment assistance, and exit counseling. 

    Leadership and Administration:

    • Inspires, supports and professional staff. 
    • Acts strategically in the application of client management (CRM) software, including performing data analytics to help implement admissions strategies. 
    • Implements best business practices for managing admissions data.
    • Prepares weekly enrollment report for Sr. Leadership.
    • Communicates and implements annual recruitment strategy with admissions staff.
    • Manages a departmental budget (to include oversight and approval of travel policies, recruiting travel budget and expenses), 
    • Collaborates with Dean and faculty in leveraging signature programs and specialty concentrations to enhance the competitive advantages of the School of Law. 
    • Develops new sources for identifying future students. 
    • Performs related responsibilities as required.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    • Graduate degree (Juris Doctor, PhD, Ed.D., MBA or relevant professional graduate degree), 
    • Minimum of three years’ experience in law school admissions,
    • At least two years’ experience managing law school admissions staff,
    • Proven experience yielding academically outstanding students who represent the diversity of our region and nation, 
    • Knowledge of law school admissions software (ACES II and Unite),
    • Demonstrated success in relationship building and customer service, 
    • Experience utilizing scholarship or other soft funds to further incentivize high caliber prospective students,
    • Understanding of financial aid processes, 
    • Experience with strategic planning, budgeting, and program development,
    • Exceptional communication skills, including effective writing, public speaking, presentation, and persuasive competencies, 
    • Desire to work in a collaborative environment with other subject matter experts and team leaders across functions to achieve a bold vision, 
    • Ability to travel locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally is required,
    • Experience in leading and developing staff,
    • Track record of innovative and creative solutions to the issues facing an admission department, and 
    • Ability to mentor and encourage colleagues and staff as a leader within a school.
