Dean of Humanities manages administrative functions of the college of humanities. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Humanities leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Humanities requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Humanities manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. This position is one of four Deans of Students, each responsible for a single graduating class or Form. The Form Dean stays with the class as students progress, building a holistic relationship with the students over their years at Westminster. Working collaboratively with the other Deans, he or she serves as a key communications facilitator between the school and parents and is often the first point of contact for families. As form dean, he or she is responsible for:
● Recording and processing all absences related to student commitments
● Overseeing rule/policy violations and administering appropriate disciplinary responses
● Organizing Form events and feeds targeted at building class unity
● Coordinating travel plans and school offered transportation to the airport and train station
● Collaborating with the other form deans to ensure equitable execution of school rules
● Serving as Class advisor
● Overseeing all permissions
● Performing various administrative duties
● The team of form deans work after faculty meetings finish in June and return two weeks prior to full faculty return for planning, programming, and training purposes
This full-time faculty position includes teaching responsibilities for two sections and coaching assignments or equivalent for two seasons. Applicants should expect to be involved in all aspects of school life through service as a corridor supervisor or off-corridor affiliate, faculty advisor, evening and weekend duties, and other responsibilities as needed. A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree is preferred. The successful candidate will have experience working in an independent secondary school and a strong commitment to boarding school life.
